My daughter is not black but Proactiv has really helped her. Don't see why it wouldn't work on dark skin just as well

The active ingredient in Proactiv is benzoyl peroxide. I believe you can get the 5% benzoyl peroxide soap (bar) over the counter in a drugstore. I've used the PanOxyl from Stiefel for my back, and it has worked. A 10% soap (liquid or bar) requires a perscription.

You can also go to a dermatologist (or perhaps even a family doctor) to get a prescription for Stievamycin. The regular is 0.025% tretinoin, and 4% erythromycin. The mild is 0.01% trentinoin and 4% erythromycin. I used to alternate the mild Stievamycin and something else (forgot the name) on my face, and the acne cleared up in apprx 6mths to 1yr. Then I had to keep using them for a year or so to maintain it.

Dosage and strength depends on your skin. Too much is an irritant, and too little doesn't do too much.

Stuff from the drugstore is probably much cheaper than Proactiv, and prescription medication is usually covered by insurance companies.

If your acne is really bad, I guess you could get a prescription from a doctor for acne-specific oral antibiotics, a special type of birth control pills (called "Diane 35"), or accutane.

I don't think your skin colour should change your acne treatment much. Just, some of the topical medications are coloured creams, so make sure the pharmacist mixes it to the right colour.

By the way, I think most people just grow out of it. So if you don't pick at it, your skin should be fine.

NATURAL ACNE PROTOCOL
1/ Never, ever touch your face.
2/ Use 3 facecloths to wash your face, one to soap on, one to soap off with very hot water, one to rinse off with ice cold water, in that order, once a day.
3/ If you are under 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A once a day with a full meal
4/ If you are over 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A twice a day with a full meal.
Do not get pregnant while taking vitamin A. Do not take any more, like Accutane, it will stop you growing.
5/ Never, ever. pick, squeeze or pop your spot. Read number 1 again.
6/ Do this for 90 days.
7/ Invest in a brand new pillow and 2 new or more pillow cases to double bag' your pillow. HOT wash every couple of days.

A bit of advice given to me as a teenager, a bit of science as I am studying allergic reactions and vitamin A is a part of that. A bit of research: I sat in a lecture at the back and watched the acne prone pick at their faces, those with the worse acne touched their faces 32 times in an hour, the clearest complexions didn't touch their faces even once. I have circumstantial evidence that acne is the result of dermatophyte transfer from hands to face...where it does not get washed off and is well fed by hormones, sweat a
nd oil...just a hypothesis... But it would explain why vitamin A is so effective as vitamin causes skin to remove dermatophytes.

The secret is never to touch the spots

Tips on how to treat acne and achieve perfect clear skin in as little as 7 days?

Don't listen to these other morons that say black doesn't make a difference when it comes to skin care- they're just ignorant.
African American skin is more prone to oilness, ingrown hairs and blackheads than caucasian skin. You need a good skin care regimen that includes cleansing, toning, and moisturizing. Someone mentioned Proactiv, which is very good. If you don't have the money for that, try this:
1. Use a good skin care bar, such as Basis.
2. Cleanse your face morning and night with a exfoliating sponge, such as a Buf Puf (ESPECIALLY at night before bed).
3. Use an alcohol free toner to remove further dirt, oil, and dead skin cells.
4. Use an oil-free moisturizer after toning.
You can also try any product that contains glycolic acid in it for further blemish control ( something like Pimple Eraser is good). Hope tips help.

I understand. Society has been trained that black women are dark with nappy hair. I have been told that same statement for years. I have exotic looking eyes. Most people think I am from another country. So instead of saying you are a pretty girl (which you are) they say you are pretty for a black girl, because they are not use to seeing a black girl like you. Just educate them and maybe we can change one person at a time.

If this is of a sudden then get off the drugs, stop hanging out with Methamphetamines and their 'cooks', have your house tested for Meth!
