Society buddies marijuana with 'hardcore drugs alongside with heroine and meth'. Their ideology is that, if marijuana became criminal it would motivate extra risky drug use. Now I thoroughly trust you. Alcohol, cigarettes, spice (drug), tobacco, and so on. all reason maximum cancers and all are lots extra volatile then marijuana. Marijuana although if, if smoked, does reason some lung issues and it does have outcomes on the ideas. yet lower back, no longer almost as harsh through fact the others. yet another reason that is not criminal is via the fact, properly, it would eliminate from all those industries. Like 'Mr. Brightside' says 'in the experience that your going to smoke you may as-properly smoke marijuana'. in basic terms approximately 15 states have legalized scientific marijuana (lots extra advantageous then highway). that's a start up and that i'm constructive In time, marijuana properly grow to be criminal. it would desire to be faster then you definately think of. Economies are down international huge. Legalizing this would defiantly pile interior the money! ....besides getting caught with marijuana isn't that undesirable. per which state you reside in, you in many cases in basic terms get fined or despatched to a pair meaningless class.

When they tried to outlaw liquor, it didn't work, because it was already too entrenched in the culture.

Banning alcohol made criminals out of law-abiding citizens. Hmm...wonder if the same is true for...nah, couldn't be!

But yeah, basically there wasn't the same kind of public backlash when the marijuana was made illegal, so the laws worked. But don't deceive yourself, both booze and pot are bad for you. The question is, why is the government telling us we can kill ourselves one way and not another? There is no reason for marijuana to be illegal, but it's really not going to change anytime in the foreseeable future.

Because alcohol has been around forever and there are businesses making fortunes on it. Once businesses get together to influence the government, they can do a surprising lot of stuff.

I've seen a lot of friends and some family veg out with marijuana. Sure is handy for letting the years fly by, but I wouldn't recommend it for anyone I liked.

reason be, theres still alot of old timers in washington running the show. let the next generation get in to power past Bush, and you will see reform in the drug laws. pot should have been legal 25 years ago, but the stigma of getting high still lingers in the minds of millions. and your right, pot does no more harm the alcohol and deffinatelly less harm to the body. i know no 50 year old pot heads going into DT'S or haveing to hide there stash all over their house or sitting around shaking every morning for the next puff, or slapping their wives around. is there a "skid row" for pot heads? i think not. i guess this is one thing cali is right about. and im not into cali's laws too much either. just think of all the "pot" holes that could be plugged with the tax money, and more alcohol awareness ads they could put up,.......... oh well,.......

The answer to this questions goes back eons ago. Marijuana was introduced to the U.S. by mexican immigrants who migrated to this country. It was thought that marijuana(back then spelled marihuana) would make them not only lazy but would make them influence and hypnotize white women. Same thing with cocaine which used to be legal. Cocaine used to be given to slaves to make them work longer hours. It became illegal when it was thought that black men became sexually charged when taking coke and that they would rape white woman. Opium? Same thing only it was towards chinese men. Think about it; prejudice is the reason drugs became illegal. I watched a special on the history channel and that is where this info comes from.
To prevent young people from trying marijuana, there was a campaign telling people that weed would make you do anything from suicide to murder which is where that movie, "reefer madness" came from.

The petrochemical, pharmaceutical and alcoholic beverage companies stand to lose lots of money when cannibis is finally made legal, so they are working against it. Actually cannabis, when used in moderation, is safer and more effective than many of the things that have displaced it.

If you live in a state with medical marijuana, look for a doctor who will prescribe it for you. If not, maybe you should move to one. In the 1920's, pot was legal and alcihol was illegal - that wasn't any better.

It is illegal because of tax reasons.

And because of powerful lobbies like the pharmaceutical industry, the alcohol industry, Hearst, the petroleum industry, etc.

In short the people who are wealthy would be subject to change, which is the last thing the Gov't. wants.
