Ah, the drama of the first human family! Makes the players on "Married...with Children" look completely sane.
The story just shows the kind of stuff people would want to listen to around the camp fire as they nomadicly herded their flocks around the desert. Who would want to listen to a story where people got up every day, did their work, went home to eat, went to bed, made love, and the next day started all over again?
It may not make real life peaceful, but a good story needs a little mayhem. Maybe that's why the Abrahamic religions that depend so much on scripture are also so violent. It's the way they've learned in scripture to interact with God.

Interesting question...I can see how you might boil it all down to vegetables suck...but I have always believed that Abel listened to Heavenly Father and followed His directions whereas Cain just did what he wanted and hoped it would be good enough. I also believe that Cain's jealousy of his brother would have led Cain to kill Abel over something else even if Heavenly Father had not spurned Cain's offering.

It was probably due to Cains personal failings. In that God didn't spurn his offering because it was vegetables, and Abels was a
lamb. But because Cain did it in a half-a++ed way.

I always wondered about that. God didn't say ahead of time what kind of sacrifice he wanted. So Cain comes to God with the crops that he worked to grow, only to be flat-out rejected. "Why can't you be more like your brother?" So you make a pretty good point.

Cain worked a vineyard, the grapes of the vine were well not the best, those he kept for himself.
Able was a Pasteur, he gave of his lambs those that were perfect.
Cain felt that if Able would not be so choosy of his offering, then they could get along!

No, Cain's offerings were rejected because he did not bring them to God joyfully, but only because he had to. It's like shaking a 5 year old's hand over the offering plate to get the dollar out of it. He is only giving because he has to, not because he wants God to have it.

THE BIBLE DOES NOT SAY WHY GOD REJECTED CAIN'S SACREFICE...MAYBE CAIN'S ATTITUDE WAS IMPROPER, OR PERHAPS HIS OFFERING WAS,NOT UP TO GODS STANDARDS..... PROVERBS 21: 27 SAYS..." THE SACRIFICE OF THE WICKED IS DETESTABLE------HOW MUCH MORE SO WHEN BROUGHT WITH EVIL INTENT ."
GOD VALUES BOTH OUR MOTIVES AND THE QUALITY OF WHAT WE OFFER HIM . WHEN WE GIVE TO GOD AND OTHERS , WE SHOULD HAVE A JOYFUL HEART BECAUSE OF WHAT WE ARE ABLE TO GIVE . WE SHOULD NOT WORRY ABOUT HOW MUCH WE ARE GIVING UP , BECAUSE ALL THINGS ARE GOD'S IN THE FIRST PLACE..... INATEAD WE SHOULD JOYFULLY GIVE TO GOD OUR BEST IN TIME, MONEY POSSESSIONS,AND TALENTS....
HOPE THIS HELPS YOU TO UNDERSTAND...
