im not recommending a specific model but just general tips on what to get. if you want to edit and have slightly better picture quality, get a miniDV cam. if you just wanna record and watch, then go for miniDVD cams. if i were you, id get a miniDV cam for your purposes, cos you have more flexiblity with what you can do, and the extra time needed to burn to DVD is minimal.
when buying, a large optical zoom is great, but lesser optical zooms will work. ignore digital zoom. make sure the camera has a manual shutter control and white balance. manual focus and aperture are great, but not necessarily required, but when possible, look for all four.
you can get a 3ccd cam for under 1000 and they enhance your picture quality. also, look for optical stabilization. it will help, but is not essential. top loading cams are a plus, as you can load a tape in without taking it off the tripod.
when recording, bring a tripod if possible. the tripod can be used when you are moving to help stabilize shots also, (lengthen the legs and fold them together so its like a monopod, then hold it at the center and walk). get shots from different angles (when possible), it will make the video more interesting than just staring at one angle the whole time.
you can go to www.camcorderinfo.com to search for cameras. panasonic's pv-gs series has a lot of the features i mentioned here so you can take a look at them. hope this helps!

Theres many out there. Mini DVD, and now Harddrive Camcorders. They look really neat. No need to drage DVD's with you or tapes no more. Id do your homework on any camcorder you get. Read the Cnet reviews. Circuit City and Best but sell a good bit of Harddrive camcorders. Also you wanan look for a big opticle zoom. Digital zoom doesnt really matter, but its the opticle that you want. Opticle zoom will make your video clear when you zoom in and when you zoom in with digital zoom it'll start to get pixely. Anyways, a good 20x opticle zoom would be nice if your sittin on the stands watching football. If your into widescreen viewing you can get a 16:9 camcorder. also they sell HD camcorders and you'll be able to find that in a harddrive corder. So thats real neat to. That be my bet. Go with a hefty opticle zoom to get in onthe action, make sure its a HD camcorder so you get the real detail and color.

It is due to the lighting conditions, especially when filming under floodlight conditions, the autofocus system has a very slight delay under certain lighting conditions, this causes the picture to appear blurred, this happens with all camcorders so I'm afraid you are going to have to live with it.
