While home alone, I tend to think I hear sounds that aren't there and I panic a lot and sometimes my breathing gets heavy. I also get scared usually and tend to one room while I am home alone because I am scared while alone. I also tend to think when I hear sounds that someone is coming to break in and kill me, but my mom always tell's me we live in a safe neighborhood and we do. Do I have a disease or disorder? Or is it all in my head? Should I go to the doctor? I am 14, I didn't know if age was important so I included it.

Yes this happens during the day and also I always keep the TV on in a room across from the room that I stay in all day. I also am on the highest floor of our house(2 story) and our kitchen is on the mid floor and I never go down to eat lunch or breakfast.
My brother also got mad at me for always following him around during the day but now he is in college so I am home alone. Also, I used to wake him up whenever I got up (I got up earlier than he did cause he slept in a lot) and I woke him up because of these problems.

no you are just suffering from an anxiety attack that happens to a great deal of the worlds population, sometimes there is no reason for them at all, sometimes they are stress related,
it is very important to control your breathing if you are in a panic attack as rapid shallow resperations lead to an inbalance of o2 in the blood and the body reacts in a strange fashion,, normally you will get pins and needles in your fingers, your hand cramp up and turn into claw like objects, chest pain occurs and some people think they are actually dying,,
the secret of anxiety is to to have the knowledge that you are not dying in any shape or form and that you can reverse this process by relaxation and controlled breathing, some people still use the paper bag over the mouth to reduce the amount of o2 in the blood, it does work but self control is the answer,,if you feel anxious its important to sit down relax ,pick up a book and dont let the anxiety get worse,
speak with your parents to try and find out why you are becooming anxious in the first place..

good luck wee chap

chill out boy. i had the same problem when i used to stay home alone. sometimes i would turn on all the lights. since i was scared of the dark.
but this could happend becus of what you watch on tv or a movie. if you watch scary movies the thought of being scared stays with you throughout the night or even week. so be carful on what you watch. try no to watch at night scary movies.
you are just scared of the dark .thats it. and becus of this you think you are hearing sounds an then your brains tells you that someone is around you. so you freak out. the brain plays many games with you.
so try to have a friend over when your alone. see if that helps. does this happend during the day?
have you ever been abused when you were young? this could also be a factor. you must be scared of a person coming to attack you.
but if nothing like that happend then i guess your just scared of being alone. keep the music up in the house. not too loud and keep the tv on. at night try to keep some lights on around you. and ask a firend over.
at age 14 you are allowed to stay home alone so i have nothing to say about that.
keep strong and keep telling yourself that your okay and that your a big person now and a teenager. so you can stop being scared.

You should talk to your parents more about how you feel. Did something happen to you or to someone you know well? A break in, getting mugged, a bully at school? Something had to happen to give you this fear. Think about it and talk to your parents. If something happened that you are having trouble getting over you may need to talk to a counselor.

Don't be ashamed. It's ok!

i think its normal to be scared when alone because the way the world is its good to be cautious. but if you blow this fright out of proportion like hearing a small noise and calling 911 because you think someone is in you house then you may want to talk to you doctor.

i don`t` think its a disorder put it`s normal for a 11 year old but a 14 .is it your first time if yes its normal but if you been more than 6 times you should be used to it by not.of you get scared just get a bat or something and go check if you get scared.if you don`t want to hear sounds listen to music.if those things don`t` work i suggest to see a doctor.

Yes. See a psychologist. If nothing else you are parinoid but there is probably a more deep rooted reason you are having these feelings/thoughts.

it's all in your head, it's totally the mind, i get that too, but it's not noise, it's like images. if you are desperate, do see a doctor, but even better, do some couseling, maybe something is bugging you.

While it is normal to be afraid when home alone, this seems to be above and beyond. Your fear seems to be extreme. It sounds, from your description, like you might be hyperventilating when you are fearful which indicates a deep fear. Only a doctor/psychiatrist can tell you for sure what is going on. Please see a doctor (psychiatrist) to discover the basis of your fear. You are young and, with the proper help, can overcome this fear. Life is too short to live in fear. Please get some help so you can enjoy your life!
