It is a myth. The only truth is that the chickens are kept in really small cages which is cruel. Free range chickens are much healthier.

First of all, I am not sure if KFC genetically modifies their chickens. However, this is quite common in the food industry. They do it with fish. However, just because animals are genetically modified, this does not mean they are not REAL. They are real! They are just different-- super chickens if you will.
Through genetic engineering, Chickens can have, literally, bigger breasts-- amongst other clever advantages to make meat healthier or tastier. Now, is this ethical? I don't know. They do it to fruits and veggies and it's totally safe-- for us anyway. I don't know about the chickens, but they get killed either way. That is why the PETA people are always protesting against KFC because of the way they treat and kill the birds. The process is rather scary. They slit their throats and toss them into a machine where they come out all packaged and prepared. Trippy.
Anyway, it tastes like chicken because it IS chicken.

No, it is an urban legend. It went like this "KFC uses genetically engineered chickens that are featherless, have no beak and no feet". It is a lie. Although birds are given a ton of antibiotics to resist disease a chicken is still a chicken, no matter what variety it is.

As many people have already said, its a myth. While their humane treatment of the chickens (or lack thereof) can be called into question, they are raising, cooking, and selling real chicken.
Truthorfiction.com is a great website that confirms or dispells many internet rumors, including the popular KFC rumor. The link is below. Enjoy!

"Genetically engineered" doesn't mean it's not real. It's still real chicken whether or not it was the product of GE.
As for the truth of this statement, check out the link below.

It was a myth. KFC chicken is safe (even if they are going about breeding more chickens unethically).

I heard they are real chicken but they are not fully formed, they are like blobs or something in a really small cage.
