OK folks, shingles are caused by the herpes zoster virus which is the same one that causes chicken pox. When you have chicken pox the virus runs its course and then lies dormant or kind of sit at the nerve roots. When something triggers this virus it will then become active and travel down the nerve to its ending and you now have shingles. Shingles only occurs on on side of the body and you can draw a line where it stops. This activity can occur multiple times since the virus is always there. You can get chicken pox if you have not had them before from someone with shingles but you cannot get shingles form some one. You cannot get shingles if you haven't had chicken pox. Hope that clears that up.

I once had shingles. The earlier the treatment, the less area the rash will spread. Shingles happen only once. If your immune system is weak, you'll have it.
Vitamin B complex was prescribed to me by the doctor as a supplement. You can add this to your diet as well to avoid future occurrences.
Go and check with your doctor at once.

Yes...shingles, chicken pox, herpes are all in the same family and can be recurrent. I'd get a prescription for the antiviral med and start taking it immediately and keep some on hand for the next time it comes back.

Sorry to give you bad news.

yes, its very likely.

Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox. Once you have it, your body can never get rid of it. Its very common to have flare ups throughout your life.

Yes. I had it several years ago, on my right side only. My son caught chickenpox because of this. Since then, I have had one minor recurrance. According to doctors, you can get it more than once, and its usually caused by stress.
