Gene Fullmer was very tough and maybe the strongest middleweight ever. Nunn was a great boxer with an excellent jab. I believe Fullmer's strength would cause Nunn problems and though he would jab effectively would not be able to hurt Fullmer enough to keep him off of him. Fullmer by decision.

To Santa D - I will follow you like a swift boat.
I am not saying that you can not pick Fullmer over Nunn.
This what I am saying though:
1). When Fullmer fought Tiger and Robinson he was KO'ed by them.
2). Fullmer is also not an all-time great.
3). How could you say that Nunn had a weak chin and he was only KO'ed once.

Fullmer - W 55 (KO's 24) TF 64 - W pct 86% - KO pct 38% - wins over "Tiger" Jones, Robinson{2} and Basilio[2] - KO'ed by D.Tiger and Robinson - #74 ranked fighter

Nunn - W 58 (KO's 37) TF 62 - W pct 94% - KO pct 60% - wins over F. Tate, Barkley, Starling and D. Curry - KO'ed by Toney
Titles at 160 and 168

Fullmer had a good chin/will/heart and stamina but no KO power. Nunn evidently belived what Santana D said about his weak chin and stays away from Fullmer and wins a majority decision. Had he mixed it up because he had some punching power he would have had an easy unanimous decision and he would have busted up Fullmer.

Brent F ~
Mike had no chin and Gene hit like a mule, every time Mike was in there with a puncher he had problems. The 15 rounds were made for Gene, he was use to going 15 of the toughest rounds. Mike on the other hand had a real hard time with 12. Gene far outclasses Mike, and in their primes this would be a complete mismatch. Gene fought the way better competition Basilio, Sugar Ray and Tiger. there is no reason Mike would even belong in the ring with Gene. Mike was a good fighter but not great, his name is hardly ever mentioned when the experts talk about the all time greats even the guys among the ones he fought the average guy couldn't tell you who they were, Tate? Barkley? Starling? hardly household names. We would know these men because we are hard core boxing fans but nobody else.

That is a tough call, Gene Fullmer was a tough guy, but I have to go with Nunn... I probably am going to sit down and think about this all night long but I'll stick with Nunn
