If you want it to grow, cut it every 6 weeks, no sooner, no longer. I couldn't get my hair to grow either. Screw the genetic thing, you can break the cycle because I did. Nobody has ever had long hair in my family I am the only one because I get my hair cut every 6 weeks and use Herbal Essences for dry/damaged hair with the split ends that I HAD before getting regular trims. Best way to wear hair while sleeping is to let it down. You wouldn't want anything pinching it when you lay on it or binding up to turn into tangles! Oh yes and don't use hairspray, its sticky, doesn't smell that great and its not natural. Avoid shampoos with nut oil.

Speaking only on personal experience ( my hair is down to the small of my back):
1) No proven answer for this, but a good diet improves all parts of your body, also, avoiding hair products that dry your hair (hairspray, other products with alcohol in them) will cut down on breakage, which will help your hair stay long.
2) Use good conditioner and moisturizing shampoo, get the ends trimmed as soon as you notice the split-ends start.
3) I like doing a loose braid with one elastic at the end, reduces breakage you would get putting a tight elastic farther up the hair (like in a ponytail). Use the thicker elastics that don't have the metal bit in them, too, for the same reason.

I have heard that if you occasionally just cut off the very tips of you hair tht it will make it grow faster, and to avoid split ends, dont brush your hair, use a wide tipped comb or a hair pick. Also do not curl or straighten your hair that give you lots of split ends and damages your hair in other ways, and I have heard you should wear you hair up when you sleep but I don't know what way, I just know if you wear it down it wrips out more of your hair.
Hope I helped

For the life of me, I can't remember what can make your hair grow longer but there are natural products out there. As far as split ends go, have your hair trimmed every two weeks or so (especially if your hair is long). And don't sleep in a ponytail, it is always best to let it loose.

1. no matter what you do you can't make your hair grow faster, it only grows between 1/4 & 1/2 an inch per month
2. Trim your hair regularly (every 6 to 8 weeks). Use a wide tooth comb when its wet, deep condition at least once a month & avoid hair ties with metat parts
3. Tying your hair back will cause breakage, either use a claw clip to hold it back or just leave it down. Scrunchies are probably all right as long as you tie your hair in a low pony & wear it loosly

If you get it cut every 3-4 weeks, it will grow faster. This will also take care of the split end issue. I wear my hair in a ponytail...

1. you can't make it grow faster. that's determined by genetics.
2. use a comb when your hair is wet to detangle, not a brush. condition, condition, condition. avoid heat on your hair, or at least use a thermal protector beforehand. get regular trims (every 6-8 weeks).
3. braid. ponytails and pigtails will break the hair where the elastic is.

To make your hair grow faster, you can take prenatal vitamins. They will help your nails grow too. To avoid split ends, try not to have your hair pulled back too tightly or use things in your hair that will pull it out. Sleeping on a silk pillow case will help split ends too.
