Sure they were.... It is evident that your religion has less to do with a personal journey and more to do with how/where you grew up. Which also makes it evident that it is all BS and all made-up.
The majority of self-righteous, judgmental, true believing Christians would be self-righteous, judgemental, true-beliving Muslims if they were born in the mid-east, and vice-versa. Though the doctrine may be different the psychology of needing to fabricate the answers when there are none still remains. All the ******* on both sides that are saying the other is going to hell would be on the opposite side proclaiming just as loudly if they were born in a different place.
How clear does it have to be made for you to accept that religion is man-made? Notice I didn't say there is no God, only that religion is man-made. Ultimately, there are some good philosophies in religion I don't deny that. However, the exclusivity and the threats that come along with some of those philosophies turn your religion into a hurdle to be overcome and are a hinderance to human social progress.

People tend to follow the faith they were brought up in. You see it a lot with Christianity where the church puts pressure on the followers to have a lot of kids and bring them up according to Christian teachings. I can't imagine why things would be different in countries where other faiths are predominant.

The question is unclear. What are u refering to , if not religion. If it is a reference to relgion, then the matter is another issue than one to come to mind, alike race or other issues.
