Absolutely not. That's why ranting at them won't help. Only a revelation of some kind can pull them out of the delusion. Brainwashed individuals are often very much like addicts, in their behavior, thought processes and problem solving ability. Reason has left the building. You will often hear them repeat the same phrases over and over. If it is a group, they repeat each other. They have delusional answers to their problems, and the problems themselves may be a delusion. They often believe exactly the opposite of what they appear to be stating. Also they are the only ones who could possibly have the answer. No brainwashed individuals do not know they are brainwashed and unfortunately in large numbers they can be dangerous to reality and those who live in it.

I think the best way to explore this question is to say that if they knew that they were, in fact, brainwashed as a child, then they might be taking their current overall mental health into assessment - and trying to work out what is really going on. As children we are so apt to mimick, or absorb our surrounding that influence us, whether they are negative or positive. Being brainwashed to believe, for instance, that a certain race is one way or another, and that another is superior is a common "brainwashing" that takes place with young kids. If you saw the new "Clerks" movie, they actually introduce this topic - when a derogatory statement is made.
So, I think with constant re-inforcement from a positive (or sometimes negative) outside influence, a brainwashed person can sometimes see another point of view, and hopefully work him/herself into a new direction. But until then, there is nothing allowing for that change.

Of course not. It;s sort of like the case with Elizabeth Smart... If something happens in which you have no control over and your brainwashed you don't realize the effects until AFTER its happened.

"Brainwashed" is a loaded term. We are sometimes aware of the level of influence other people have on us. However, as we get older we are more likely to question many things, depending on our need to conform.
