This very thing happened to me. My post-partum bleeding had tapered off and then 2 days later I had terrible cramping, clots and heavy bleeding that lasted for longer than a week. Turned out it was my period instead of the lochia. I wasn't breastfeeding & had already started birth control so my hormones were all out of wack. Anyway, wouldn't worry too much especially if there are no huge clots. Your body is still healing and your periods will be sporatic for another month or so. Good luck & don't worry yourself to death about it:)

My gosh, I know I've stayed on for several weeks after the baby came but never was there blood running down my leg. Sounds like some kind of internal bleeding. You need to see a doctor ASAP. I wouldn't say this is normal, but something inside you is wrong which is causing the heavy bleeding. See the doctor as soon as you can. Good Luck!

I know after I had my daughter I bled for 4 weeks from the delivery. After I stopped I didn't have a period for 3 months. My periods have Never been as bad as you are describing. I would be VERY concerned (not to scare you). Call the doctor back and tell them how you feel. If they tell you they will call you back I'd call another Gyno or go to the ER. That is just what I would do. You know how bad it is we don't. Go with your gut.Good luck!!

If blood is running down your legs even with a pad on, you need to go to the hospital right away.

I would call again and let them know what is going on. It sounds serious enough for them to at least want to take a look at you. If you don't think they are giving you the attention you need, call another doctor and ask their opinion.
