i come from s.africa ,where there is a high rate of hiv. i have known several people with the disease, some of them children. my view is that it doesn't matter how the person got it. it feels like a life sentence to most of them. though i have seen articles about people surviving at least another 20 years, because they have had the finances to look after their health.
because it does not seem to be on the same scale here, i feel that there is not enough campaigning ,to educate both those with it and everyone else. i admit that i was very cautious when dealing with the people, as you would need to be. but it also frustrates me how ,many will avoid contact ,purely out of ignorance.
it amazes me how nurses do not wear gloves when dealing with body fluids here. on a first aid course i did, it was astonishing that they were telling us to be careful of hepatitus and basically saying that aids is not likely to be a problem. i think you should allways be on the alert.
i think it is easy for people to say, that someone got hiv or aids, because of their life choices , this gives them the consolation that they don't have to care about that person and has a dual benefit of avoiding something that they only vaguely understand.
lastly (-sorry i could carry on ,as i have strong feelings on this,),avoiding, stygmatizing and other cruel treatment leads hiv poeple to keep their status to themselves for fear of ostrasizing. and i am pretty sure that most people would rather know the truth.
you are very brave to admit it, hopefully you will educate a few people in your life and create awareness.

This question is not odd in anyway. You are rightly trying to gain perspective on how people may perceive you.
People who perceive those infected with HIV/AIDS negatively are the ones with the problem. They are ignorant to the fact that HIV is a disease that any of us can get. HIV can be transmitted in more ways than just sex.
If one does get HIV through sex, then it can occur because of broken condoms or just one wild night.
Even if someone does get HIV because they have "slept around", it doesn't make them a bad or dirty person. A persons sex life is her or his own business.
Some of the comment I have read on this form have made me really angry. Regardless of how you got this disease, you are still a worthy human being. You have just as much right to love and happiness as anybody else. I wish I could give you a hug right now!
Go out and live your life! Try to get the right treatment because, as a person has already mentioned, todays treatment is working for many. Good luck!

I don't know which view are you talking about?!
If it's concerned with Life-span of people with HIV then My Dear Friend..
HIV in today's world is no more a stamp of Death. With the new drugs presently available, it's just like other Chronic Diseases! So, one can live normal life-span even though infected with HIV albeit the person takes proper treatment. It's almost like living with other Chronic Diseases such as Diabetes, Rheumatic Heart Disease etc. which got no cure yet.
If It's Concerned with Spreading the Disease then My Dear Friend..
There are far more deadly contagious diseases in the World than HIV. One of the dreaded ones is Tuberculosis. In today's circumstances, H5N1 strain of Influenza Virus is one of the deadliest. People, who just come into contact with Birds/People having this strain of Virus die in a matter of days!!!!! Another one is Meningococcal Meningitis, same as H5N1. So, you realize that HIV is nothing compared to many Contagious Diseases.
Just know that Life Should Be Full Than Long..
As long as you Respect yourself, you will surprisingly see that Others Have the Same feelings for you But If you do the Vice-Versa then Expect the Same Result..
Take Care..

I don't really have a view, if I was going to have sex with the person I would like them to be honest so we could use protection to avoid me getting it.
You can't catch it like the cold, it is only passed through bodily fluids.
If I had a friend with it I wouldn't keep them at arms length, if they needed a hug I would quite happily give them one.
Starskys wife got HIV from a blood transfusion.
A lot of people with Hemophilia got it from infected blood before the blood was screened properly.
If someone got it from having sex with an infected person is that their fault if the other person didn't disclose it to them.
I feel there is still a lot of ignorance around about HIV/AIDS
I suppose I would treat them the same as any other person I knew and would like to think if I got told in confidence from them that they had it I wouldn't treat them any different.

people with HIV are still human they shouldn't be penalised for what they have they as with any person with a disease have caught it obviously and have to live with the consequence's most of the time it isn't actually the persons fault i think they should be treated with as much respect as anyone else as it is HIV is perfectly safe as long as you don't come into contact with them sexually and you don't come into contact with any kind of fluids they lose and even if you do there are things to use to reduce the chance of catching it yourself . there should be more information for the people that don't know anything about it so that they can find out the facts by the way i don't have it but am not prejudice against people that have any thing wrong with them bless them all .

How would you like to give CPR to a person that was taken to the hospital afterward you giving CPR, and then later hear rumors that the person has AIDS. The worst thing about this situation is that I could not find out if that person really had AIDS because laws protects anyone with AIDS from having this fact be known to anyone else. My family also suffered for weeks because I could not be tested for a month after the incident. I later found out for sure through his "friends" that he really had AIDS. (One year after the incident I still tested "negative"). I know now that there are "tools" that can be used to protect the individual who performs CPR, but who carrys them?
(Yes there was blood, and I gave mouth to mouth)
I don't have any thing against people with AIDS because many of them have contacted it innocently.

They deserve exactly the same respect as any other human being. HIV is a horrible thing to have to deal with and to those on here that suggested they would consider someone with the disease is somehow "dirty" or "lower class" - be aware that we can all be a victim of circumstance, no one is perfect, we all make mistakes or fall victim to things outwith our control.

I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse. I feel sorry for those who have caught it through birth. The rest deserve it Even those who have caught it through blood transfusion, if you look in the Bible you will find that God has warned us of the dangers of taking blood but no one listened. He also warned us about abnormal sex, but no one listened, he also warned us about the dangers of NOT sticking to only having one partner, but no one listened. So what do you want us all to say.
I will tell you this though, a cure has been found on the island of Dominica, but because the forest is protected by the world heritage trust (of which i am a member) we have to wait for permission for it to be released. A German company will manufacture it.

I don't have a problem with this. You were just unlucky, depending on the way you contracted it. If sexual, I still can't understand why not use protection, for just 15 seconds of pleasure you have a life sentence...if it was not contracted in this way, then I am sorry and hope things go well for you for as long as possible.

i think people with HIV just had a run in with some bad luck, it doesn't make you any different of a person than me, you just have an illness. one that you have to be care full with. i have epilepsy, and unfortunately people are afraid of what they don't know about. you live your life how it makes you happy, not by what other people think...
