You are providing the snacks Mom. Stop giving your child snacks throughout the day and then when it comes to meal times she will be more hungry and eat the good healthy food that you have provided. A small healthy snack like fruits, or vegetables can be satisfying, but nothing should take the place of a well-balanced meal. Also, make mealtime fun. Make sure and join her at the table and talk while you eat. Children who are left to eat by themselve loose interest, we would too.

As a mother of 7 and grandmother of 8 with clean floors I have the answer. Tough love. You do not give her snacks when she is walking around. She should only get a snack when in her high chair or at the table. The hardest thing to remember about parenting is that YOU are the adult and YOU are in control.

The advise we were given is to establish specific times to eat...about 6 per day....3 meals and 3 snack times. Give no food between them and only water to drink. This should help set up a routine for when to eat.

On getting her to sit in a specific spot....Sit down and eat with her.

These things will not happen overnight, but you must stay consistent. It may take a week, two weeks, a month, or more. Once you have gotten her to comply, life will be better (and it will be something else that drives you up the wall...)

Take the snacks away NOW! My daughter will be 2 in December and we're just getting over that. As long as they can play and have their snacks, the highchair is just as good in the box as it was in the kitchen. It's time to set boundaries. They have to learn to eat meals rather than snacks all the time and sometimes it means taking all snacks away until they do so. Children (regardless of age) learn to be manipulative from the day they are born. They know it if mommy says no and they keep pushing and mommy gives in then they can get whatever they want. Thats why its important to stick to what you say and don't back track. For your sake and theirs.

1. take the snacks away, if she is not hungry at meal time, she won't be still to eat.
2. stop the high chair, let her sit in a booster chair, so she feels like a "big girl"

Who gives her food while she's walking around?
You sit her in her high chair & then give her the food. No high chair no food. No child should walk through a house eating & drinking they don't allow it in schools or daycares.
She'll get hungry and give in.
It'll be harder on you than on her.
Besides children have a better chance of choking on their food if they're not properly seated. It's also a safety issue.
Good luck!!

You dont encourage it...you demand it. When she eats, she sits..period. If she gets up from the table to walk with food, place her back in her chair (shouldnt she be out of a high chair?), if she gets up again, take the food out of her hands and tell her people sit while they eat.

try a booster seat at the table instead. 2 is a bit big for a high chair. kids also eat more when moving around

put the snacks in the high chair; associate sitting in the chair with rewards. give her vegetables or something else she doesn't like as much for eating while walking around... and the good stuff for the chair only. Soon she'll love sitting in the chair and then you can feed her there.

Don't give her a snack until she's in her high chair and strapped in. Who's the parent?
