Two outcomes are possible either you have to let her know she opened her legs to this man. Why is she going to risk having a baby that is going to have problems. Make her see that it will cost her more in the long run. For example say: you know its clinically proven that mothers who smoke look at my quote,"Babies born with low birth weights require more medical care, have more health problems, and are more likely to die in infancy than are babies of normal or higher birth weights (2). White mothers who smoke during pregnancy are nearly twice as likely to have a low birth weight baby, and nonwhite mothers are almost 60% more likely than are mothers who do not smoke. Reducing the percentage of babies born at low birth weights has been a relatively intractable public health problem." Let her know since probably she has money problems already, let her know that she doesn't want to be spending more money on keeping her low-birthweight child in the hospital in a plastic container because she'll kick herself in the *** the whole time becuase it was her own fault. The other option is you try and she does not care and this will lead to possibly what I explained and worse yet, the baby may not survive and she will remember this for the rest of her life. If she's already messed up. Help her fix her own problems first. Then she can care for another human being. If you're religious or not, pray for her. That her heart will be softened. You don't want your god-daughter turning out sickly because her stubborn mother wouldnt give in and give up smoking. it's easier to quit now, rather than later. Buy her the patch. If she bitches, back off and pray that she gets in her right mind. Take care and hope she quits, girl.

I had a REALLY hard time about quitting when I found out I was pregnant. I didn't find out until I was 5 months! Before I knew I was pregnant I smoked literally a pack a day. Then when I finally found out that I was pregnant I decided I'd go cold turkey. Well...it was hard and I decided to go from Marlboro Reds to Lights. Then I went from 21 cigarettes a day to 10. (very hard) Then from 10 to 5. From there I only smoked a cigarette every once in a while. Going days without having one. It really isn't your business. I hated it when people would say something to me about it. I really tried my best and I have a beautiful baby. I also went through a lot of stress during my pregnancy. Maybe suggest she cut down like I did and switch brands.

My last supervisor where I worked found out she was pregnant. I was also at the same time. She was telling one of our other coworkers that she told her doctor that she would "stop smoking when she got ready too" and that they "just had to give her time." When I heard that, I thought she was such a selfish bytch. Well, she lost her baby, she was only like 9 weeks and it just stopped growing and she was walking around carrying a dead baby and didn't even know it. Well, I avoided 2nd hand smoke and I'm not a smoker and I delivered on August 12th and my baby is fine. See what can happen when you are so selfish? Your friend needs to really check herself, this pregnancy is not all about her, it's really the baby's health that's more at risk.

if she were to quit cold turky it could cause miscarrage for the baby is already used to the smoke. She would have to cut back 2 for a few days and then cut back 2 more for a few days.
My friend found that out from her docter after 8 weeks she quit for 2 years

Your friend should be charged and locked up for criminal abuse to an unborn child. If she does not care about herself then she should at least care about the child that she is carrying. My friend did the same thing and her child was born with a very low birth weight and had to be in NICU for nine weeks. The child is plagued with lots of medical problems and will be for the rest of her life because the mother smoked throughout her pregnancy. She was told of the possible consequences but ignored the advice of her physician. Now she wishes that she had listened. The child is the one who has to suffer for the rest of her natural life.

Honey there is nothing you can do but nag her about it. You can't physically make her quit. Try talking to her about just cutting down to under 10 cigarettes a day. Thats a start, and its better for her and the baby the less she smokes. So if she wont quit, try to tell her that cutting down will be better than blatantly hurting her baby.

You cannot force someone to care or to do something they do not want to do. That is really sad though.
Maybe you can pick up a few brochures of what a fetus can look like who has been defected by cigarettes. I do not know... Sorry I am not more helpful. Good luck.
Just so you know though... I mean you should not smoke when you are prego but my mom did and I am okay. So yeah. Good luck though.

I think you should keep trying to convince her to stop smoking because that is a real big issue....but honestly if she doesnt want to listen to you or to anyone else just leave it alone. She'll learn her lesson when her baby comes out with any health problems or with any birth defects. At least you tried to help her by convincing her to quit...

Girl, you really can't help someone when they don't want to help themselves. Just tell her straight forward, "if you don't stop smoking, your baby will come out with birth defects and you won't able to live with this for the rest of your life, know that it was your fault!" If she still doesn't listen, then let her be. When her baby comes out with defects, she will remember you and wished she would of listened.
If I were you, I really would be her friend anymore.
