I will go and vote in a sec. But first I want to answer to the question: I think that everybody should learn and master at least an extra language, You can't be as selfish as to think that everybody is going to understand you just because of your pretty face. I am Mexican and of course, I am having Spanish as my first language. But English is my second (I think I've mastered it) and French is my third (not yet mastered) and I am seriously thinking about learning Italian and Russian too. That's why I can't understand that people want to have only one language in there little brains.
Have a nice day, luck with your decision about the other question and thanks for allowing me to write what I think

Yes they definitely should it gives you an edge like no other when you go to get a job. If your not the fastest typist, or the most computer savy, But your good. And you speak another language you get the job.
In America the best is Spanish. There was this girl not the best in the class in the Dakota's where you have a lot of French Candians and she could speak French and English.
They were always calling her out of class to go to hospitals and government center and they paid her. People was waiting to hire her when she got out of school. while the rest couldn't find jobs.
The teacher said: "More than anything else you need to learn is to speak two languages fluently. That will do more to insure a good job than anything else you can learn."
Get a boy friend that speaks a foreign language and make him speak only this language to you. Then what you say is secret.

I think Americans should learn and master a second language. I think EVERYONE in the world should learn another language. I am learning Spanish, so I am biased. Since Spanish is so influential in the United States, I think that would be a good place to start.

Hello Sweetie. Since I can only vote in your link (which I've voted) ......... Let me say that Americans are showing signs of falling behind in almost every aspect. From education, business, economy, etc. Americans have everything to gain learning a second language. As to which one, I think there's a need for every language and people (and students) should be encouraged to master one of their choosing.

I believe that its really up to the americans if they really want to, I mean I wouldn't mind learning a few diffrent languages. For instance, there is Native American...certain types like Chippewa, Sioux, Nez peirce, yeah I'll learn those, and maybe some spanish. But I believe that everyone else should learn american. If they are gonna live in america. I mean the native americans were forced to learn ENGLISH. Which isn't all AMERICAN...But yeah, if your gonna travel learn other languages and master them, if not...than don't.

Yes, Americans should learn a second language. Whether they should master it or not is a personal decision,

It's the person's choice if they want to learn a second language or not. I myself am trying to learn Russian, but so far I'm not very good at it. I know some numbers and a few phrases.

Yes Americans should learn another language. They're not alone in the world. It's arrogant to expect people to speak English wherever you go.

Great question. Unfortunately, I'm still at level one and I don't think I can vote yet.
And yes, American should learn a second language. A second language of their choice.

SHOULD they?
I dunno...your question is rather vague...For what purpose SHOULD they learn this language? Do they NEED to? Do they WANT to?
Isn't America supposed to be the great melting pot? There are any number of languages (and dialects) in the greater Los Angeles basin alone...
Are you asking about SPANISH (and is this a question about the illegal immigrants "taking over our country")?
Are you asking about CHINESE (and is this a question about the also illegal immigrants taking over certain portions of LA and NYC)?
Are you asking about FRENCH (and is this a question pondering the vicissitudes of a language tied to a people who are alternatively wishy-washy and war-mongering)?
Are you asking about LATIN (and is this a sneaky question regarding the fall of the general level of intellectual knowledge in our colleges)?
Just wondering...
