First, spray pickling (extra strength) vinegar where your boy cat sprayed. Clean this spot with a paper towel or a rag. Allow to dry. Sprinkle baking soda over the spot later and vacuum. This should take care of all of the residual scent. Good luck!

Bleach and water.
Cat pee is ammonia based. When you mix bleach and ammonia it reacts to form a poisonous gas that dissipates quickly removing the smell. If you are deeling with a lot of cat pee it's best to leave the room after spraying.

I dont know of anything homemade, however there is a product called FON, feline odor neutralizer. I swear by it and so do many of our clients.
