The guy that I would be buying it from just moved to Ireland and needs to get rid of the car cause he cant drive it over there. He wants $2900 for it which would cover the cost of shipping and insurance. He is going thru Yahoo! Autos to sell it and it seems safe but my gut is telling me not to send this guy the money. Now Yahoo told me that this guy has put $15,000 into a secured account that was locked 2 days ago and he cant get any of the money out. And as soon as I send the $2900 he will ship it. And when it gets here I have 15 days to test drive it and inspect it. If I dont want it I can send it back at his cost and my money will be refunded to me in full. The car is a 2000 VW Jetta. He says its in almsot perfect condition. I have been told by the Western Union people that if I dont know the person personally that I shouldnt send the money. I need help. If its truly safe I dont want to pass it up but if its not I cant afford to be out $2900.

I would NOT.
There are just too many scammers out there & too many things that could go wrong.
I wouldn't ever recommend buying a car without seeing, touching, driving it & having it checked out.
I've been selling cars for 23 years & never had any problems. I sell cars face to face, day in & day out . year after year.

I think , a purchase online, like that, is just too risky !

While I would buy a car over the internet (and have bought 3)..

YOUR activity is a SCAM.

This guy is conning you.

Never pay for anything western union with someone you don't personally know. You, as a sender, have NO protection.
It's a very common scam "I'm moving out of the country and don't need the car"

also..
"If it's too good to be true"

$2900 for a 2000 VW Jetta?
Come on.

Unless it's got 250,000 miles on it.....
the KBB for a 2000 jetta is 9100 to 12750.

If it's a TDI, its worth even more.

As a side note.

I own a 2003 VW Jetta TDI Automatic Sedan.
:-)
49MPG.

If it is not a Certafied used vehical, then i would definately check it out first. My cousin bought a 1999 Pontiac Firebird TransAM WS6 for what was a VERRY good buy...well turns out it was to good to be true...after driving it for about a year, he mushroomed a piston and broke a connecting rod...this wasnt his fault though apparently after opening up the engine, some "work" had been done by the previous owner and long story short he now has to piece it together for about $2500 or get a new block which is going to run around 4 grand...u get what u pay for.

That has DANGER written all over it. It's fine to buy a car on the internet but NEVER send or wire money. You should arrange transportation for yourself to pick up the car, pay him at the site of sale and drive the car back home. Most people selling cars on the internet will be willing to pick you up at an airport.

you don't buy a car unless you can have it checked out before purchasing..... look at the car dealerships or individual sellers in your own area.... no one is parting with a 2000 Jetta for 2,900.00 (it must be junk) ...
If the guy has 15,000 dollars(in a secured account on Yahoo) he can really afford to have the car shipped to Ireland!
