... many of the people who have what others view as physical handicaps or challenges - such as deafness, Downs syndrome, blindness, spina bifida, or mental disorders of all kinds - are actually world-class athletes or scholars or musicians or teachers or actors? Would you mind expanding your concept of the potential of the children of God to include amazing abilities for almost everyone who seems to be going through what we consider to be huge or moderate obstacles?

Hmm, I thought I asked this extremely respectfully. The reason I even asked this is because I did have the acquaintance of an Olympic-level ice skater who was in a wheelchair for most of her life - but people who did not know her would not have known what she was involved in before. I do not think less of anyone with any handicap - all of God's children are of equal value. What I am saying is, wouldn't it be interesting to see how much larger the range of athletic or accomplished people will be after the resurrection. That's all.

Not surprised really, I've always believed that our resurrected bodies would not be subject to the same frailties and illnesses of our current mortal bodies. I'm actually really excited about the idea of not needing contacts, being able to walk for a mile without my knees killing me, yeah, that'll be great.
Best wishes

Not at all. God promises that those who are resurrected will have perfect health. In fact, there are many Scriptures which give us hope of what is to come. Isaiah 33:24 states:"And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity." American Standard Bible
Isaiah 35:4-6: "Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God; he will come and save you. Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as a hart, and the tongue of the dumb shall sing; for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert."
Revelation 21:4:"and he shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death shall be no more; neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more: the first things are passed away."
God's Kingdom will bring wonderful blessings to the earth, not only for those who are resurrected, but for the millions of meek ones who survive Armegeddon.

The problem with your question is that you are still judging those living with "handicaps or challenges" as lesser human beings than "world-class athletes or scholars or musicians or teachers or actors." The very fact that you, quite innocently, propose that living as a "world-class athletes or scholars or musicians or teachers or actors" is BETTER than being one of the "people who have what others view as physical handicaps or challenges" shows your (perhaps subconscious) belief that "people who have what others view as physical handicaps or challenges" are lesser human beings than others. If God is as wonderful as you purport, he feels no differently about the "people who have what others view as physical handicaps or challenges" than he does about the "world-class athletes or scholars or musicians or teachers or actors." And neither should any of the rest of us.

That is what I certainly expect to happen after the resurrection..."At that time the eyes of the blind ones will be opened, and the very ears of the deaf ones will be unstopped. At that time the lame one will climb up just as a stag does, and the tongue of the speechless one will cry out in gladness...And the very ones redeemed by Jehovah(God) will return and certainly come to Zion with a joyful cry; and rejoicing to time indefinite will be upon their head. To exultation and rejoicing they will attain, and grief and sighing must flee away."

I would not be amazed at all. The bible tells me I will get a new body in heaven, free from disease, wounds, scars and I will be able to get around as well as onyone else. I agree it is a pleasant thought. There will be no diseases nor sickness in heaven. Praise the Lord.
