I definitely like Viognier. My favourite is the Yalumba Y Series Viognier, preferably the 2004 Vintage. However, another great one is from Chateau des Charmes in Niagara on the Lake, Ontario, Canada. Here is the write up on it:

2004 Viognier, St. David's Bench Vineyard (SOLD OUT)
(V.Q.A. Niagara Peninsula)
Château des Charmes Viognier, St. David's Bench Vineyard is a rare vitis vinifera variety that originated in the Rhone region of France. It is a smooth, medium bodied aromatic wine with complex melon and citrus flavours on the palate with peach and almond aromatics. 289 cases produced. Harvested October 29, 2004.

“From the beguiling nose (honeysuckle, apricot and peach) to the lengthy and luxurious finish, this is a stunner. Sweet and warm tropical fruit flavours abound in this velvety, almost creamy, medium-bodied offering. There is a delightful verve to this with a tangy zest integrating seamlessly with the fruit-driven finish. Stock up, before it's gone. 5 stars.”

The Yalumba is a good choice. A lot of wineries here in California are producing Viognier these days, with varying degrees of success. The best value I've found is at Trader Joe's. They have a brand called Honey Moon that's only $4.99 and is pretty good.

Hello, again, Shiraz Princess.
This is Montreal Lisa.

The best voignier I ever had was the real original one, an appellation Condrieu controlée (France's smallest AOC, just 8 hectares of riverbank slope), in the Cote Rotie of France, whist savouring a meal on a restaurant terrance overlooking the river. The cepage was Domaine Jurie des Camiers Mas de Chery.

By the way, did you read the wine column in Wednesday's "New York Times"?? Our Okanagan pinot gris was praised as some of the best in the world (which we already knew, didn't we?)

Take care.

I do like Viognier, it's very interesting. Don't have a favorite, yet, because I haven't tried many of them. I'll try the Yalumba, on your recommendation.

Try Alban Viogner. It is from the Central Coast of California and is delicious.
