You haven't said how old you are, how far you're going to get to NY or what exactly about it makes your dad upset. Have you gotten any professional training? If you want to make it in the NY scene, you'll need a range of skills, including singing, dancing and acting. You should pursue your dream, but in a way that makes it most likely that you'll succeed. You'll need a talent agent since a lot of calls go out to agents first. Just make certain the agency is reputable. You can't just show up untrained and unrepresented and hope to make anything of it. If you want to be a pro, you need to start looking, acting and thinking like one, and that means approaching this as a business. Best of luck.

No matter what it is in life that turns you on and makes you want to jump out of bed in the morning. DO IT! This is your life not your dads and if acting makes you happy then do it! Other wise you will regret it when you're older and wish you'd had taken the risk when you were young. Presuming you're young that is. We bounce back better when were young and this is the time to do it anyway.
If your dad is supporting you and doesn't approve then take a look at getting work at a playhouse, theater bookstore, anywhere that acting is involved. Hell get three jobs if it's gonna make you smile at the end of the day. It's your ONE life, live it as you wish!! Good Luck

Depends on how old you are. And really, if you have to ask us this question, you apparentlly are not old enough, or mature enough, to make up your own mind. And believe me, just going back and forth to NY to act, is a far cry from making your dream come true. I hope you are VERY talented, know the right people, have an agent, and have a lot of luck, because that is what you ill need to make it in the entertainment world.

I would ask my dad for his permission to move to NYC. It is a very expensive place to live and if he approves, maybe he would help support you. Give it a trial run, like a year, and see if he will go for that...if nothing happens in a year, then try moving back home. Good luck in your dream, remember us lowly people on yahoo answers if you make it big! =)

Don't feel like you have to choose between your dad and your dreams. You can have them both. Parents that aren't artists themselves don't always understand the commitment to something so ellusive as acting, painting, music, whatever. Understand this and talk to your dad. Just talk to him about it. Try to get him to talk about his concerns. Probably, he's worried about practical things like food, shelter, safety. Ask him what you can do to make him feel better about you moving to NY. Don't give in to what you think he might be thinking- its a slippery slope. Talk to him openly and honestly. That's all you can do!

Of course you should go back. This is your life, your dream, and what kind of a problem does your father have that he needs to guilt-trip you about it?

Even if your dream is not realized, would you rather spend the rest of your life wondering? And resenting your dad?
Believe it or not he will respect you if you throw yourself wholeheartedly into it and try.

You gotta do what you gotta do. Your family may not understand, but once you gain some momentum in the industry, they will be more likely to accept it. It's your life.
