Well, as long as you are wearing your seat and shoulder belt, you're covered.
In a convertible, you should also apply sunblock, SPF-30, minimum. And wear a hat, too.
Some things to consider:
You might find pictures of yourself posted on Flickr.com
If you have a convertible and leather seats, put something like a towel between you and the seats.
If you get in an accident, the airbag might go off and you could get a serious lacerations and bruises from the fabric. Your torso might resemble a burlap sack. And your bladder and sphincter might not hold, so it could be messy, possibly reducing the resale value of your car.
Finally, if a cop pulls you over, just think that he/she might ask you to exit your car, just to make sure you aren't carrying a concealed weapon. If the cop car is equipped with a video camera, you might see yourself someday on America's Wildest Cop Chases. If you are comfortable with that, go for it.

The law says the only required clothing is shoes, however safety belts are required, too. But, once on the road, you become publicly indecent. So, as a "bare" minimum, you must have shoes, pants {and top for the fems}, and safety belt.

Well, dang. I don't think they can pull you over, unless your condition is causing havoc on the I-10. Probably safer to drive buck nekkid in an SUV, than a convertable.
