Questions about getting tips in hair?

Question

I have thin brown hair, with blonde highlights that are growing out. I'm thinking about removing the highlights and just have my natural brown hair color. I want to get tips in my hair, what color would look best? I would like to stick to blondes/blacks/browns, no crazy colors like purple or orange. Also, do you think tips would look better in layered hair or unlayered hair? An estimated cost? My hairdresser was not very specific. Thanks

browns are best to look at with shades and mix two shades of brown with lighter tips and darker shades

i say in layers.. it would look way better....
