i am trying to get a tax exempt card for purchasing supplies for elderly customers. i am in the residential repair and cleaning bussiness

I don't understand why you think you would get a tax exemption certificate. Tax exemptions are usually based on being a governmental agency, or being a religious, educational, or other charitable not-for-profit agency. It doesn't seem like you have any qualifications as such.

You can go to your state's Department of Revenue web site for more information on qualifications on tax exempt transactions. Doesn't sound like you qualify.

If you are a business owner you can purchase merchandise free of tax for resale only. If you buy from a company that doesn't have a physical location in your state they may not charge you sales tax, but you'll have to pay use tax.

You can only get a resale certificate & that is only if you are acually reselling the product and charging the tax. If your charging tax then you must get a permit through the board of equalization.

state franchise tax board is what they call the place in california. hope that helps out.
