I have done it on my calculator but don't know how to read the result (it is presnted as 7.14 to the power of -03). Why is there a negative sign when it says to the power negaitive minus three?

What would be the result written out in full for dividing 0.05 by 8
Is it 0.00625?

Here is the deal. There is a minus or negative sign to tell you that it should look like this 0.00714. So the calculator shortens the notation and just writes it out in scientific notation in stead of just printing it out and also because there are some repeating digits so it just gives you that answer.
You are also right about the second answer. It would be 0.00625.

0.05 divided by 7 = 0.00714285714285714285714285714285 recurring

0.05 divided by 8 = 0.00625

As has already been mentioned, ss, if you use Windows Calculator you'll see the results for yourself.

Because the answer is presented in significant figures.

6.25 x 10 ^ -3 (same as your answer by the way. check on calc if you want to.)

I'm not sure if that is what you are looking for. good luck
