E. coli can be found in many different types of food. If any food comes into contact with the E. coli bacterium then that food can be contaminated. I have personally never heard of it being found in apples, but it is possible.

E.coli is most typically found in ground beef, but it can be found "on" fresh produce. This is because a lot of fertilizers contain manure. Since apples grow on trees the risk of E.coli contamination is lower than for produce that grows directly out of the ground, but there is always a small chance of cross contamination. To be safe make sure you thoroughly wash all fruits and vegetables before you eat them.

Yes, if they are handled by a someone who has a E.coli infection or who remains a carrier of the infection. That is the reason why you need to wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly before consumption and to roast your beef well so that the chances of infection are minimized.

No, to the apple, but if you cut the apple on a counter or cutting board...it could have traces of e coli on it that could make you sick.
