First of all, do you not think that it depends on the situation? Sometimes, I am afraid, a driver, by accident, may kill someone else in a RTA, but it isn't necessarily his (or her) fault.
It is not my intention to upset people here, but I have already seen at least one answer that includes 'drink driving' Okay that is bad and I am not going to say that it is right - but there are often questions that are against and speed cameras. Have you seen the TV ad with the little child in the road?
Hit me at 40 and I will die. Hit me at 30 and the chances are that I will survive.
I know someone that hit a deer at about 60mph. Killed the deer and messed up the front end of the car quite a bit - and that person thought that it was okay. Still speeds and won't change their mind. They can't even visualise that it might have been a human being!
So, if you speed, please, slow down.

I'm generally not know for my hardline stances on things, but in this case I have to say that some of the sentences handed out to people who have killed others in traffic collisions have been ludicrous. I would agree that people who drink drive and kill should be locked up for life because there is just no excuse for drink driving, but I suppose there are certain circumstances where no matter how careful a driver you are you may be involved in a collision that kills someone, and I guess from that point of view it becomes a grey area.

It sounds to me like you're asking for an absolute. Justice and absolutes don't mix well because there are always situations that fall outside the spirit of the law.
For example, under your proposal, a habitual drunk driver who hits and kills a child riding a bike goes to jail. But so does the mother who accidentally backs over a child in the driveway. The mother will never, ever in a million years forgive herself - it's a parent's worst nightmare...a true accident. Should that parent REALLY be treated the same way as the drunk? Personally, I don't think so.

No. I think they should have tougher sentences although that wont happen cos the prisons are full. If its just an accident ( I know someone does something to cause an accident but accidents do happen) then no but if it is a drug/ drink driver or car thief then much longer sentences are needed. The only life sentence for killing with a car is if it is murder and the car was the weapon.

I think it depends on the situation. My friend passed someone in a no passing zone. He had a head-on wreck and killed a guy. He was sentenced to 19 years with out parole. If your being cautious and doing a good job, then no it was an accident. If your just driving fast, drunk, high, or impaired at the moment then its your fault and you should go to jail.

Absolutely not. That would give the same life sentence to a first degree murderer and a traffic accident death?
We all make mistakes. We all have accidents. What if the brakes fail in your car, or the steering arm? What if you sneeze, and that causes the accident?
This is why we have judges and juries. They can use intelligence to affix blame, and to have mercy when it is called for.

I think it depends.... If the driver is high on drugs and runs down a little old lady who is legally crossing the street at a stop light - then Yes. However, if your mother accidentally doesn't look at her blind spot and changes lanes, thus forcing a motorcycle to lose control resulting in his/her death - then No. There are too many degrees and dependent factors to take into account to make a sweeping statement like that.

I would vote "YES" on that. A truck driver who had run through two stop signs , ran his 18 wheeler over the top of the moving car that my 16 yo grandson was sleeping in .... and killed him instantly. The truck driver got a ticket. Yes, where is the Justice???

If it was dangerous, talking on mobiles, speeding, joyriding or drink driving then ...yes
All of these above that have caused an accident ,the drivers get off too lightly - that's the good ole British justice system for ya !!!
