I am not talking about those who are disqualified or if you are in ROTC. I am a Conservative and I serve in the Army. I encourge my brothers to serve when they are old enough. Even if you are obsessed with getting your Liberal education, you could serve in the reserves at least. Maybe I am wrong and there are not many people that fit this profile, but I am afraid there are many Sunshine Patriots out there.

Dont forget that in order to keep society running you need doctors, lawyers, bankers, shop owners, farmers, drivers, merchant seamen etc etc etc as well as military personell.

Also some people are just not cut out for military life, which is why a volunteer army performs much better than a conscript or drafted army. Some people would not be able to cope with the stress and danger, whilst others would go mad with the routine and order of it all.

Why shouldnt those people also be capable of being patriotic?

it is their personal decision and being conservative does not require you serve in the military...i know many in the military from privates to corporals and many of them are card carrying liberals, they voice their opposition to the war and the president on a regular basis to the new recruits....i think this is wrong as it does not help with the morale but i am not in a position to do anything about it.

The chickenhawks and 101st Fighting Keyboarders are fighting the war of ideas here at home which as the brave boys at the National Review are all to happy to tell us is just as important as the fight in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I would join the military except this whole thing of hating to be yelled at. I am very sensitive but if I wasn't I would have joined.

I think there's a lot of people that are good americans that don't want to die over some lies that led to war in Iraq.
The patriotic thing may in fact be to discourage presidents from playing god.
