What if the spirit of God, or an angel, came to you and asked you face-to-face to abduct your neighbor's 1 year old child because if he stays in the house he is in, circumstances unforseen by anyone but God will cause this child to grow up to become a terrible conquerer and a slaughterer of millions of innocents.

But if you do as God commands; abduct the child and move away from the area, and proceed to teach the child all about the bible, then the child will instead grow up to be a charismatic preacher who will convert many to the Church.

Would you do it? This scenario assumes that you're not just getting an impression in your heart... but actually see a bright light and a booming voice. Oh, and the home the child belongs to is not abusive or neglectful whatsoever... they're just not religious at all.

If the answer is no, because you feel that it would be Satan in disguise... then how do you know? How did Mary know, or the apostle Paul? What makes you any more discerning?

Also, if your answer is no because you feel that God would use other means.. how do you know you're not God's chose means? The bible is full of people acting on God's orders.. why not you?

You realize this is the same God that had the firstborn of Egypt killed right? Why not have one child merely abducted? Both situations would be enacted to serve the greatest good right?

To BrotherMichael:

Fisrt, you're actually limiting God by saying he wouldn't know what MAY happen if certain things are allowed to come to pass.

Second, In this scenario, God says flat out that abducting the child and changing his environment will change his possible future. God doesn't lie, does he?

You really are creative in your scenarios.
Is it possible you are smoking something to have you come up with these thoughts.
Maybe you read too much Steven King.

God is not going to make a person go against the commandments...

Thou shall not steal..
Thou shall not covet thy neigbor (or their things)
Thou shall not lie (moving away and assuming a new life)

Also in Proverbs Chapter 6 Verse 16
God finds that a person that sews discord among others an abomination.

God doesn't go against his own word...

Back in the time of Pharoh and the first borns... the pharoh was given a choice to believe or not.. same as we do today... he also was told the consequenses... as christians know the consequenses today... that time too was BEFORE the 10 commandments were handed down.

The whole "seeing a bright light and hearing a booming voice" is a flesh perception and not a spirit perception..
It says in the bible (after the resurection) that the Flesh man will never be able to come before the face of god.. only the spirit man can... so again, God doesn't go against his own word so that debunks it.

Finally, God gives us free will...and he won't take that away... IF God actually commanded that action as you propose that would be taking the childs choice away.... If God would start that, then what would be the point of free will or even making this kid an evangelist... God wouldnt need him, he could just place people in the position of no choice....

Doesn't make sense... God is not a liar...

Your thesis has some holes in it. First of all, you intimate that you believe God has foreknowledge of our lives, I agree. Then, you put forth the idea that changing a persons environment will change their future. Then wouldn't God's foreknowledge be flawed? Did He actually foreknow that this particular person would turn out a certain way, or was it a mistake? Remember, God is not limited by time, He sees all as now. There is no future with God. He sees your life in its entirety, He is not waiting to see what you will or won't do, He already knows.
Secondly, you assume that humans can change the hearts of others. We can't. Only God can change a human heart away from evil and to good.
Third, you assume that a persons environment causes them to bend towards good or evil. This is also flawed. There have been plenty of people who were born into adverse environments who grew up to be strong men and women of faith and people who grew up in Godly homes who went the other way. A persons early environment does not necessarily determine their future.

The end does not justify the means... all good and perfect thing comes from God. God doesn't use evil to bring good. We have a free will which is a gift from God and He won't violate it. The child will have a choice to follow the wyas of God or to live in wicked ways. God has a plan for all of us for our own good. If that is the case... God would have to abduct as all because no one is righteous not one. God bless!

God never contradicts Himself. Knowing that kidnapping a small child is wrong and a sin, God would never ask that. Thus, this question is a fallacy.

that's a great and scary question -- it demands we examine the strength of our faith. Abraham was ready to kill his own child because he was convinced that that voice was authetic and godly. My strength is strong, but maybe that is only because it has never been severely tested.

So I'd have to say I hope I'd go as far as is necesary and that I'd know that it was the real deal, but I just don't know for sure.

Sadly, many people really would do whatever they think God tells them, even if that means drowning their kids.
