Someone else just asked this today...must be a lot of skunks out. Anyway, don't use tomato products (juice, sauce, etc)...they don't work. Get a product called Skunk Off (available at many vet's offices) or make your own cleaning agent...Take 1 quart of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide (available from any drugstore), 1/4 cup of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate for you science types) and 1 teaspoon of liquid soap, such as Ivory. Mix and immediately apply to the stinky pet. Rinse thoroughly with tap water.
Both of these have been proven to be very effective...and they're both more effective than other home remedies (tomato, vinegar, etc). If you use the peroxide one, don't let the dog lick it or she'll get sick...and don't mix until you're about to use it. Keep in mind, that you'll still smell it for a while when your dog is wet...no treatment completely gets rid of it on the first try. As far as the room, I haven't heard of anything that really works...I would suggest checking the pet store for an odor eliminator, and airing the room out.

Tomato Juice does NOT work. I can tell you this from LOTS of experience. I have a Husky that like to hunt skunks. We tried Tomato Juice and it masks the scent for a few hours, but it does not get rid of that TERRIBLE stench. To neutralize the scent, you have to use 1 Quart of Hydrogen Peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking Soda, and 1 tsp of liquid dish soap. Spray the stuff all over your dog (for mine, several batches were required) and make sure it soaks all the way through the fur and do not get it too close to their eyes (get some skunk out for that). Let it sit on them for about five minutes. Then just rinse off or bathe (the dog) as you usually do. It also works on getting the skunk smell off of you, which if you are handling a skunked dog you will smell terrible after the ordeal. Some people say Vinegar works, it does not work (this I also know from experience). Good Luck.

Tomato juice DOES NOT WORK! Believe me this happened to me with my Lab and it didn't work. Baking Soda & Peroxide did work! After 2 washings it took the smell right out. It makes like a paste you have to put over the dog.
I hope it works for you too!

I've heard that tomato juice works but I tried it with my dog when she was sprayed and it did help some but did not take the smell completely away. It took a couple of months for it to completely disappear. That was a horrible couple of months too!

Soak her in a mix of half warm water half vinegar for 15 minutes. You can pour it on her or spray it on her. Be sure to keep it off of her privates.... If she has it on her head you can take a towl with some of the mixture and gently scrub her head with it, but be sure not to get it in her eyes. Afterwards rinse her in luke-warm water. If she still smells repeat after she is compleatly dry.
Tomato juice is a myth, it doesn't work at all
