boil some water, add a one pound box of elbow macaroni , keep watching it and stir it often, after 10 minutes or so take a few pieces out to taste it and make sure its cooked , after its cooked , drain it, and add a cup of milk to it and break up sliced American / cheddar cheese, or use Velveeta or whatever cheese you have, break it into Small pieces ( about a lb of cheese ) and warm it all together in the pot on the stove till the cheese melts , keep stirring, you can add a bit of salt and pepper if you like... after the cheese all melts its all done, don't forget to turn off the stove!

My favorite baked mac and cheese is from Good Eats with Alton Brown on Food Network. I attached the site for that recipe. However, I'm putting here his recipe for a stove-top mac and cheese, which is faster.
1/2 pound elbow macaroni
4 tablespoons butter
2 eggs
6 ounces evaporated milk
1/2 teaspoon hot sauce (which you could leave out)
1 teaspoon kosher salt
Fresh black pepper
3/4 teaspoon dry mustard (some of the reviews said to cut down on the dried mustard, maybe only use 1/2 or 1/4 teaspoon)
10 ounces sharp cheddar, shredded (I just buy it preshredded from a bag).
In a large pot of boiling, salted water cook the pasta to al dente and drain. Return to the pot and melt in the butter. Toss to coat.
Whisk together the eggs, milk, hot sauce, salt, pepper, and mustard. Stir into the pasta and add the cheese. Over low heat continue to stir for 3 minutes or until creamy.

Cook up a bag of some tater tots, a can of corn, and the mac and cheese (shells work better).
In a baking dish put the tater tots on the bottom, put the corn on top like frosting a cake, and then put the mac and cheese on top.
Bake the baking dish in the oven at 350* and leave it there for a little while. 15 minutes should do or whatever it takes to make the mac and cheese crispy.
I make this all the time and it's delicious. It's real cheap too.

you can get the boxed mac and cheese and the add your own ingredients to make it home made. Once you make the mac and cheese according to the directions, then put it in an oven proof dish, add some shredded cheese to the top and bake it for a few minutes until brown and bubbly. You can also sprinkle cracker crumbs or breadcrumbs and then cheese if you want a topping. My son is 14 and he learned to cook this way also. He now has "graduated" to making it from scratch, but this is a great way to start. Your mother should be proud that you want to help and cook for her. Good Luck

If you have Kraft Mac and Cheese - use it and add a little onion powder or onion salt (about 1/2 tsp) while you are boiling the macaroni. If you have some ham, cut it up into little chunks and put it in after you have cooked the packaged Macaroni to directions. Simple and easy - rather than adding Tablespoons and teaspoons and stuff that you don't know about.

Boil enough elbow macaroni
When tender drain and add whatever cheese (about 5 kraft cheese singles) you have in the fridge add some butter (about 1/2 stick) and milk (about 1/2 cup) until it is at a good consistancy and you're done!~
