My understanding of an arranged marriage is that there is no opportunity to decide if you are compatible.
Marriage is a long term life commitment and children can be involved. A blind date can be just that - one date and then politely say "good-bye".

in a truly arranged marriage the parents have arranged for their children to marry from the time they are little and sometimes the children never even meet until the wedding or right before the wedding. With a blind date you meet the person go out one time and if you like each other and are compatible you go out again if you don't like each other you never see the person again but with an arranged marriage there is no way out of it. Even if you would rather kill the person than to look at them you still have to marry them.

People frown upon arranged marriages because when people see the word marriage and think of a sacred joining of two souls who love and want to spend the rest of their lives together...so when they see the word arranged in front of it..they assume that the love between the two people isn't there, that they are only bein married because of the benefits of other people.
Its funny cuz like, i was told, that people who are involved wit arranged marrages... have chances to socialize and meet their soon to be spouse and if there is no chemsitry the marrage would be dismissed or sumthin like that. Soo basically the two people go on a blind date any way....

That would not be an arranged marriage because you are still choosing to marry or not. That would still be just a date. In an arranged marriage you do not get to decide.

Statistically, arranged marriages have a higher success rate. It's believed because the two people come from the same background and have the support of both families, they fair better.

The way we say 'arranged marriage' today, it's the idea of a father selling his daughter for eight cows or whatever...the kind of arranged marriage you mean I could go for. If a guy met my brother and was nice to him, I'd know that he must be really special...

I guess if you have the choice still about marrying someone it would be okay. Most people want time to get to know someone though before making plans to get married though.
