Connect to the Windows Update and see if you can pass the Windows Geniune Advantage check. They will need the serial on your Windows CD for verification against their database. If you pass it, its 99.9% an original software. There will normally a hologram on the original real Windows CD that is difficult to fake too.

When you get updates from Microsoft, either automatically or manually downloading them, it checks for that. If you have a counterfit copy, it will let you know by giving you messages every five minutes usually at the bottome right of your screen. If you have to know right now, go to microsoft.com and have it check for you. Those messages are so annoying.

Configure your Computer to automatically download Microsoft Updates. At the Microsoft website there is a webpage
" http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/ww/windows/default.mspx. This is a Validation tool that will tell you whether your OS is genuine or not.

You can do the Validation right there itself.

Most probably if it is a printed cd with microsoft logo, and hologram on it, chances are that it will be original.
But not if it is provided as a copy on a blank cd.
Anyway, I give a link below. click on it. When the page downloads completely, then click the validate button on the page, and follow on screen instructions.
