It depends on how bad you have it? I myself think there is nothing wrong with being clean and well organized. They gave me meds to take for OCD but I never took them. I see nothing wrong with myself. I don't touch things in public places, but I don't wear gloves wherever I go either. The hardest thing for me to get over was trying not to organise & clean other peoples houses that just ticked them off!

The less extreme method popular now is cognitive-behavioral therapy.

Even if you choose the drug route, it'd still be best to work it out in therapy too.

Drugs act directly on the brain to cut back on obsessive thoughts and impulses. So if you feel your quality of life is adversely affected by your OCD, you may want to consider trying short-term drug therapy while you work on your problem with a therapist. There are a few side effects, but you may find they are worth it, if your OCD is really distressing.

Good luck.

I have OCD and I did have to take a heavy regimine for about a year with the combination of therapy. In therapy I learned to start breaking my rituals one at a time and see for myself that nothing bad would happen if I didin't follow through. I don't take anything right now and I do great - Hope this helps. Good Luck

Yep i suffer from OCD and take a cocktail of other drugs for other conditions. I have Cognitive therapy for the OCD, find therapies to be a greater help as drugs just hide the problem not help to solve it!

My OCD is worrying and racing thoughts like did Ieave my curling iron on. So I would check it 50 times per day. Now I picture this big red stop sign in my mind and that changes my thinking patturn, I learned this from my doctor, it really does seem to work and I havent been on meds for over a year now.

Yeah, I do not think OCD is a disorder actually I think it is a stage for most people (Mainly kids!) and just the conclusion of being overly obsessed. (sort of like gone mad!) Well when ever you are acting up get down and do 40 curl ups or push ups. Or make yourself miss out on something. Pretty soon you will STOP! :) lots of luck!

i suffer from ocd n i have done so for about 4 or 5 years now, im 18 now and this just seems to keep getting worse...i touch things in public places, i clap my hands over and over, i get out of bed at least 10 times a night to touch something and it is really effecting me with my social life and with school..my problem is that nobody in my family believes i need any kind of treatment, i have tried to control it myself many times and i have failed everytime...i dont believe for some cases you can cure it yourself..how bad is yours?

I think every human has a degree of OCD. It can be handled with control (OCD symptoms) if not too severe.

i constantly click my tonue and play with my mouth alot, i also, have a really bad habit of clicking my fingers and toes, i have to do it at least 300 times a day or i can't sleep, if try and stop, they hurt if i don't click them, i also have to wash my hands every time i touch something and have to use every toilet i see, wierd huh? the only way i can get around it, is if i feel my hands are dirty, i tell myself to enjoy feeling dirty, and breathe in deeply five times, sometimes it doesn't always work, but i discipline myself. i wake up every morning, and tell myself i will click fingers one less time and each day bring it down one more, if they hurt then i tell myself it's my fault for doing it. i know if i don't control it now it will get worse but i take each day as it comes, i don't know if this will help but good luck
