How much money was it? Was it worth it? Did it actually stay straight? Does Supercuts or Fantastic Sams do it?

I am Caucasion, and have fairly straight hair with some "wave" (I think they're lumps) in my hair. I bought a home hair straightening kit and followed the directions and was pleased enough with the results. I think it worked for me becuase I have pretty straight hair to begin with, and it's strong and not color-treated.

I have friends that have done the $500 Japanese style treatment in salons and it looks - in my view - AWFUL as it grows out on really curly hair. It looks lumpy and bumpy on the top while the lower layer stays straight.

If you have hair that is just average curly or kinky, and your hair is in good condition, you might try the home set (but follow instructions carefully). I've done it twice, and this reminds me it's probably time to do it again because the straightening gets old.

Be advise that the super-straight look is not so "in" as it once was. I do it to make my hair more even in texture, but it still has body afterwards. Straightening it to super-duper straight is not what the fall fashion books are showing. A tendril here and there with natural curls is beautiful....don't go too far from your natural look, or you'll have a maintenence nightmare.

My mom has had it done three times. Each about $100-$150. The first two times it worked at lasted about 3 months until her roots started getting curly again. She had her hair professionally straightened, not necessarily relaxed, at one of those little Asian-owned beauty shops. However, the last time she did it, they fried her hair and she had to cut the ends off. Good luck!

Had it done, cost about 100$ lasted less than a week. Not worth it.
