example, when I said that even though I was a Christian minister for 15 years, I am no longer a christian and see that Jesus was just a myth, i get responses like this:
"I can tell that you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord.

If you did you would know that a Christian is a new creation and can not now or ever recreate himself/herself."
or
"Do you mean x-church members?
I have seen x-church members shunned.
I don't know any x-Christians.
I don't think there is such a thing."
That first guy tried to exhort me to come to Jesus and repent and receive salvation for real, even though the bible says:
Hebrews 6:4-8

For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance

I get similar lines all the time. "Well, then, obviously you were never a real Christian." Poor, ignorant sheep.

I can remember what it was like believing in Jesus. It filled every part of my life. I even thought it quite impossible that i could believe any different for the rest of my life, 'full on' or 'backslidden'.. I would always believe. It was right in my very 'heart' mind body and soul.
Ex christians were non existent to me. If they could believe like myself they could never stop believing like myself. therefore seeing the only reasonable solution, is that they were not true believers in the first place.
For myself personally, I was a believer fully,I had a close and personal relationship with God. I would witness (that was tough) pray, read the bible constantly, fellowship, was never afraid to ask questions, seek truth. I studied christian apologetics as a true believer so as to be a much better witness, and came out an unbeliever. My believing was so strong that I actually had a type of unbelieving 'born again' experience, In a psychological way.
So the thought that someone actually believed as strongly as myself, and turned away was of course quite INCONCEIVABLE, the only conclusion I could draw is that the person is lying, or was not a true christian in the first place.

Simply because they have been trained by their leaders that they are on the right path, end of subject.....Then, if anyone gets off the path and goes in another direction, they are following the father of lies (the devil)....So now if I, as an X-Christian, utter what I believe to be true, it doesn't mesh with their belief system and they perceive it as a lie.

And they feel that it is their duty on the earth to correct wrong thinking (lies), therefore, they are obnoxious with their proselytizing....There as those among them who are angry and try to rape the truth on others.

I figured out a parable of the Christ the other night....The eye is the window of the soul, if the light in your eye is darkness, then how great is that darkness......I believe the light he was talking about it the fire of their anger, caused by their religion, and you can see in their eyes....And how great is that darkness.....And they call that God!!!

That is why I wrote my last question....I was trying to be comedic, but nobody got it....If I spoke this stuff that I believe to be true to a crowd of them, I would be bound, drug off and killed.......

Have a good day, puppy and thanks for the questions.

My thoughts on this are that they seem to have a deeply repressed fear of those who leave their "flocks", perhaps because they are afraid we know something they don't, making us, in their eyes, less "superior" and "knowledgeable of God"...

I must admit, the control of one's Ego is not checked within christianity, which does little to help their cause. I myself, still remember the feelings of being "better", because of my beliefs in christianity and the frustrations I felt regarding non-believers. Thankfully, the days of believing something purely from hearsay and the writings of men with personal bias and agendas, has long since passed me by!

Because they think Satan has infected them and they are decrying the sin...not the person. Personally, I think that is BS! Its like when your favorite B-Ball player on your favorite team gets traded, do you stick with the team or not?

Your originating statement starts "Why do Christians ...."
You were wrong before you finished it.
Christians are people........ and they do nothing alike.

Secondly..... a lie is an intentional misrepresentation - most Christians wont do that.

Being mistaken is not as sinister.

It's the 'no true scotsman' fallacy.
If you were a 'true christian' you would not have turned away. BS
