It is put forth as the greatest achievement of man...when someone merges into the the Present loosing all sense of self and the self (ego) is gone. They will tell you that themselves. The individual is lost and the consciousness merges into the Oneness of Being, which they call the Self, and they see that as a good thing.

In the plan of God the ego is a part of the human experience, and is transformed through Love, not extinction, or dissolving of boundaries.

What do you think?

Yes it is a deception. God gave us a personal sense of ourselves, our individuality. Our ego is part of our personalities, but it is tamed by the humility of realizing there is a God, and we are not it. The further extension of this Buddhist philosophy is that when we die, our soul or spirit melds with the universal soul of all people, all is one, one is all, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Enlightenment:
Two Example's.
1. You read TRUTH (a Scripture) in the BIBLE (Word of GOD's in there).
Satan and his demonic Angel's, by firing Firery Dart's into you Mind AFTER you read it , get you to Believe it Say's something that is Totally Different from What GOD SAID, and you go out and Start a False Belief System (some would call Religion, some would call Cult etc.).

2. You Read the Same Scripture AFTER you get Born-Again, and The HOLY SPIRIT Living in You Keep's you otta' Deception (Firery Dart's Fizzle) and you go on to Serve the LORD in Truth and Spirit.

Enlightenment?
You have to have The HOLY SPIRIT to tie into the Real Thing. And there's Only One.
Hope this helps.

I suggest that enlightenment is not deception.

I wouldn't say that the ego is "extinct" in enlightenment - I would say temporarily "passive."

In the same fashion, when you lie down and rest, the body is not extinct, it is just temporarily inactive.

Ideally, a healthy body and a healthy ego are important for everyday life.

As for Christ and the Christian God, I can't speak authoritatively. It seems, however, that in the immersion of love, if not a "dissolution of self," then at least a blending of self occurs which may evoke a similar experience.

The yogis talk about several paths, including jnana yoga (yoga of knowledge); karma yoga (yoga of action); and bhakti yoga (yoga of adoration).

The love of God/Christ sounds very similar to bhakti yoga, the yoga of adoration.

Enlightenment is not dependant on anything other than a willingness to accept Truth. Those that blind themselves with conditions will not attain it. Jesus teaches you how but you must follow his teachings NOT what other people tell you his life meant.

I am the Way and the Light.
-Jesus

“You cannot travel the path until you have become the path itself”
Buddha

They both say the same thing except Jesus spoke in the first person and Buddha spoke in the third person.

Yes it is a deception because it causes man to think he can do these things on his own without and in spite of God. God calls us to a standard of living that is perfect because He is a just and Holy God who is Himself perfect. Because of sin in the world this is something we cannot obtain on our own. The common lie of the devil which caused him to be fallen was the belief that he could over throw God or become as powerful as God and it is this lie that he influences us to believe everday. He tells us the power is within us and that we can all acheive a state of godhood. Look around in the world today, you will see this all over the place. People outside of true Christianity, and this includes some of the Christian denominations, all believe that the power is within them to get into heaven or where ever they believe they are going when they die. They are convinved that being a good person and doing good works will earn their way into heaven, and the bible simply tells us this is not true. Do you think that if God allowed His son to be sacrificed for the sins of the world that it wouldn't be the single thing that determines our salvation? That doesn't make sense, what person in their right mind would offer their child up as a sacrifice for the world if alls people had to do was serve mankind, do good works, and be as good of person as they could be. If the sacrifice of your child wasn't the center focus and people could get around it then to go through with it anyways would be pure lunacy.

There are some who even believe they can become gods. Athiests with their lack of belief in God belive that everything they need is within them since they do not put their faith into anything externally.

So yes, as I stated before, enlightenment outside of Christ is a deception.

I've often wondered that myself. Nowhere in Scripture does it talk about dissolving boundaries and merging with the allness of being. The Trinity shows distinctions in Being and we are created in God's image, so I would have to say that there is something wrong with that picture of only Oneness.

No, enlightenment outside of Christ is not a deception. Here is why. The only thing that is deception (in terms of enlightement) is anything that takes focus away from Christ and/or denies He is the Son of God.

The "enlightenment" you speak of is a deception.

True enlightenment is to realize that you are a sinner, saved by the grace of God. His grace is sufficient for all your needs.

When you come to realization that Christ is the answer, all of that other hullabaloo is just garbage.... a true deception.

christ is th... ,Christ is a state of awareness,I know jesus,he is all said of him and more,I also have met two other christed beings in the flesh. it sems to me that it is extremely diffcult or impossible to enter christ consciousness without one of these "saviors'. And you can not enter into union without going through "the christ".READ EPHESIANS 1-11 predestinated, 1-14 wall of partition, 2-22 habitation of GOD through spirit, 3-16, christ spirit in every man, 3-19, filled w/fullness of GOD, 4-4,5&6
one body, one God,in you all, 4-19, past feeling,(emotions)but not entered into christ, 4-13 unto the perfect man. It appears christed man "Enlightened man" has transcended "humaness",he still functions through his physic, but not caught up in it ,emotions are like gloves he "wears"them for effect. his body ,brain,& physic is but a space suit he wears in this enviorment. I believe some are called to remain on lower levels to Minister to humanity. They should not forget and become entangled in emotions.
