We are replacing our windows with retrofit vinyl windows and are finding it very difficult to navigate between all the different models, manufacturers and efficiency numbers. Problem is that not as many people replace thier windows so not as much information on the longevity of the windows, except for from the salesman. Does anyone happen to know an address of a discussion board or forum regarding replacement windows? thanks in advance.

sorry I don't-- but I did put in 9 windows in the spring (had them done). I called 5 companies-- made a work sheet with each company, same questions for each. Did some homework about what I wanted. Called each company and made an appointment at 1PM each day-- a day each. After their presentations and my questions-- I deleted and recalled the two companies in the front running. I did not tell each company what others bid.
I asked further questions of the two remaining companies and made my choice using the information, price, time to complete, functionality, honesty and helpfulness of the sales person. I had another thing-- I had black security bars on most of these windows-- so the company with the most help figuring out how to get them off, sandblasted and powder coat painted-- moved ahead in the running.
The final determination was 1) I didn't want the "best". 2) I was looking at a life of 10 years or so. 3) I did want the titanium formed into the glass-- really screens sun out. 4) I did want tilt in. 5) I didn't want to pay for Argon gas between the panes-- information on line told me the gas will disapate in maybe 5 years and really doesn't help that much. 6) really wanted excellent sealing around windows. The ones I bought had 3 vinyl vanes to help keep the window sealed. The workmen sealed with vinyl sealant also.
AND now?? Central heat and airconditioned 2400 sq ft house-- replaced 9 of 14 windows, electric bill for July was $ 133. with the worst heat in 50 years. I'm a happy camper.
good luck ps the company was Clear Choice -- your supplier may not be as good as mine--
