Know what you want.

Also, you can check out http://www.kbb.com to get a reasonable estimate of the vehicle's worth. You want to buy it as close to trade in value as possible.

Know exactly what you want when you go shopping and look up prices at http://www.kbb.com or http://www.nada.com/ Write down these prices and about how much milage is typical for the year of that particular vehicle. Go look at the lots and do not buy right away. If you find something you like that isn't on your list then write all the info down, go home and look it up. While you test drive the vehicle take it to a mechanic you know and just have them look it over real quick and get their opinion. Go back and negotiate. If you can't be rude then take someone with you who can be and is good at negotiating. Most of the time car dealers say that they are taking a loss and that isn't true. Don't feel bad for them. Get the best deal you can get and if you can't get something you are satisfied with then leave!

Go to a site like edmunds.com or kelleybluebook and check out their tips. Have someone with some car know-how and experience come with you when shopping.

Best is to have a mechanic give a thorough inspection of the car. This will cost, so you'll want to have things narrowed down pretty well.

check the kelli blue book. then take the car to be inspected by a professional before you buy,.....it's like 60-70 bucks to have them do a full inspection to see if there is anything wrong with the car.
