What are you feeding the cats? If it's canned food, that can be the problem. I only feed my cats Iams or science diet. You'd be surprised at the BIG difference in them. Most of the time, the odor can be very bad because of the food.

I have 3 cats at home and only 1 cat litter box, my house is not very big at all and when people come over to my house they get surprised to see that I have 3 cats!! because my house does not smell like animals at all. However, there is a lot of work I put into making the smells disappear. First thing, you have to get the cat litter that clumps, and make sure that your cats cover their mess when they use the cat litter, I have 2 cats who just go in there do their business and leave the poop uncovered so I have to go and cover it! then my husband always puts baking soda in the cat litter, believe me it helps a lot!! we clean the cat litter EVERY DAY! and the litter box once a week, if you only clean the cat litter and not the box the bacteria grows in the box and that is what causes the smell. I also have an air sanitizer, I spray it constantly to make sure the bacteria in the air disappear. I always mop around the litter box, if not every day every other day. I recently changed the kind of food I feed my kitties and that made their poop stink more but if you keep the area clean, there is no need for it to stink. I have a small laundry room which is where I keep the litter box, away from the living room or the bathroom, some people put it in the bathroom and I don't like that. Anyway, good luck!!

How many cats do you have? How many litter boxes do you have? The number of cats and boxes should be proportionate.

1 cat =1 box
2cats = 1 box
3 cats = 2 boxes
4 cats = 3 boxes
5-8 cats = 4 boxes

Using Cat's Pride Flushable litter that blocks a lot of smell, you should be able to clean your litter boxes every other day. Make sure you completely change your litter and clean the box with bleach and hotwater once a month.

If you still have fecal odor problems, check your kitties' diets.

What type of food do you feed? Cat are carnivores by nature. Try Innova, Felidade, Eagle Pack, one of the more expensive varieties with more protein than carbs. Also, have one more litter box than you have cats. Completely empty the boxes weekly and take them outside and bleach them...1 part bleach to 10 parts water. Let them set in the sun and dry. Have you been to the vet recently? Take a fecal sample to the vet to be checked for parasites.

A change in their food could cause them to have a different smell. If you didn't change food, humidity in the air can make the litter box smell really bad. You can try cleaning the litter box more often or switch to a different type of litter too.

Are they eating anything different? Anything that could cause an upset stomache? I disagree. I feed my cat dry food & he gets a can of wet food every night for dinner mixed in. He doesn't have stinky poo.
Use scoopable litter & try to keep it cleaned out often. Also try Arm & Hammer Litter Deoderant. I use that stuff & it makes a world of difference!

One idea too might be to make sure all the cats are using the litter box...some cats dont like to share their facilities with other cats, so you might need to hunt around and make sure you dont have any surprises somewheres besides the litter box...Good luck

Indigestible and inexpensive cat food, especially with large amounts of corn can cause stinky poops.

My cats who have a raw meat diet have very little poop (the meat is totally disgested) and it does not "stink".

Corn in the diet is not digested fully and most of it comes out the other end.

I have multiple cats too. One of my cats had a food allergy with the food we used to buy, and her odiferous output was a problem. We switched all the cats to lamb and rice dry food, and the problem ended.

if you are feeding them wet food then there feces will be more loose and smell worse. don;t feed them wet food every day. try every other day and get a cat food like science diet.
