I am not sure of your interpretation of discrimination. Why should the question of coming from the same country come into the equation?
Tall, short. Black, white. Male, female. Rich, Poor. Young, old.
Governments have tried to address the issue time and time again. The more legislation there is, the worse it seems to get.
It seems to me that all of the people that practise discrimination should all come under one heading - and that is BULLY.
I also have found that there are situations where someone will, by their nationality (or whatever) will claim discrimination when they clearly know that they are in the wrong - for example, a worker is lazy and then complains of discrimination because of his nationality.
I wish there was a good answer to your question. All I can say is provided that you are true to yourself you have nothing to fear.

After working for a number of large organizations I have observed that most people get hired and promoted through self promotion. I think that as women this goes against our natural inclination to just wait and be noticed for good work.

I was very disillusioned by this when I first observed it. But then I forced myself to try it in my own personal version. I didn't go about boasting about myself(like some people) but I made sure that management knew my accomplishments and heard about what I was doing. It worked pretty well until I got major stabbed in the back by a coworker who was a shameless self-promoter. But I refuse to lower myself to his level and will NEVER be like him to get ahead. I do not respect those who fell for his crap. They are finding out now who really was the better employee and now I have a new Carree!

Well I live in the UK, and our company only discriminates against the terminally stupid of which we have a lot come for interviews...

We have 42 positions to fill in the UK at the moment, and we can't find the staff for neither love nor money.

Because we learn prejudice when we are growing up so by the time we go to work it is a latent part of us which is shown when there are people amongst us who are different to us in so many ways. Everyone is prejudiced about someone.

Because people have been misguided throughout their lives. When you have peace and true knowledge of the Lord, discrimination is out of the question.

People are basically scared of the unknown. If that means somebody who looks or acts differently from you, then to some degree we all do it. Try and say honestly you have never done it.

People don't have to like everyone and why should they. But they should keep it to themselves and avoid the person rather than making their life resentful and the other persons life unbearable!
