I recently had a conversation with someone who lives on my dorm floor, and she asked me what religion I followed, and I told her I didn't follow a religion. I believe religion is a myth, but that's my own opinion. I expressed that I did have faith, and that I believed in God, I just didn't feel like I had to follow a religion to believe in Him. She told me I was going to burn in hell, and that I wasn't spiritual enough to talk to her anymore. Can anyone explain this?

Why should I have to follow a religion?

And compassionatesoul is the EXACT type of person I'm talking about. Did I say I was involved in 'bad activities'? I said I had faith, and I believed in God. But there is your typical so-called Christian. And I say to people like that, if I'm bound for hell, I'll say you a seat, cause you're coming right behind me.

Wow, I actually thought I was the only person who believes in god, and doesn't follow a religion... I feel that religion was created by man, so there's no way of knowing which religion is "right". I deeply believe in God, and I am very spiritual. People who obsees over religion, I pay no mind.. I respect everyone's ideas, but if they tell me that they cannot speak to me because of my views, I don't take it personsal. If that's how they feel, so be it... I truly don't know how people can be so disrespectful of other's views. They're just obsessed... As long as you pray to god, and are true to yourself, you will not burn in hell...

One who doesn’t follow a religion and is involved in bad activities is as good as an animal and sure to be take a birth in one of the lower species in next life.
But don’t worry you are not alone as there are millions more to give you company in hell as well in next lower lives. As people are really ignorant. This is the law of nature.
Look for some proper authority. You can be saved.
God bless you.

Sure, she is under the teaching of a false prophet, pastor.
She doesn't have the ability to know that religion and God are two different things.
Another way to recognize these people is that they use that saying, "you are going to go to hell."
If they were the real thing they would know this----
Rom 10:6 But the righteousness based on faith speaks thus, "DO NOT SAY IN YOUR HEART, 'WHO WILL ASCEND INTO HEAVEN?' (that is, to bring Christ down),
Rom 10:7 or 'WHO WILL DESCEND INTO THE ABYSS?' (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead)."

She has followed his teaching and thinks that she is in and you are out.
It is people like that who will be left in the churches after the rapture takes place.
Can you imagine the fear that will come on them.
They have heard it, and now they know that they are left behind.
OLAY!

It's the way people are brought up, and after that they either stick with it, or decide to follow what makes sense to them. You've decided that is what makes sense to you. That is perfectly fine and don't let anyone tell you different. She probably feels like she shouldn't be around people who do not share her same beliefs, and maybe that's best, she would just try to convert you to her religion anyway. Find some more open minded people to hang out with!
Good luck

I believe in God and I practice Christianity. I believe that this is THE way and ONLY way to get into heaven. HOWEVER that doesn't give me the right to judge everyone around me. That is what God's job will be when we get there. The girl was wrong to say these things to you, and I apologize for her. She is sadly mistaken to think she can even begin to judge you.
To explain it, I can't. There are some people who are extremists in everything, and she is in God. Yay for her. But it doesn't make you dirt, as she made you feel. Try to just show her that she thought wrong, and kill her with kindness. She'll feel horrible. :)

Find a new friend. Jesus didn't hang with the Pharisees either. (The people who go around looking down their noses at people and tell them they need to be more spiritual).

Matthew 23: 27"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men's bones and everything unclean. 28In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.

However, Jesus himself said that he is the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father (God) except through himself.

John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Trust in Jesus Christ. He loves you. Peace out.

Because ANYONE following ANY religion believes that if you do not follow the same religion as them, then you are doomed. And it doesn't stop with religion. If you don't wear Nikes your not cool enough to hang out with us. If you smoke, you're not welcome in our _______. (insert location). Sorry, this is an exclusive club. you have to be ______ to enter.

Be who you are. Believe what you want to believe. Enjoy life and live it to the fullest. be on top of YOUR world!

First of all, her response was all wrong. Christians are not supposed to act this way. Please accept my sincere apologies. The fact that she acted this way shows she is spiritually immature.

Christians believe that the only way to God the Father (and Heaven) is through His Son, Jesus Christ. If you reject Him, you also reject the Father. Those who reject Father and Son will be eternally punished in Hell.

Because of this, it is not possible for a person to "find their own way" to Heaven.

Peace.

p.s. -- tell your dorm-mate to come here; we'll set her straight on how to witness!
