Of course, Christians, just like all humans are free to think, and consider and ponder questions such as the existence of God.
Some folk get really hung up on trying to prove God's existence, and in doing so, waste much of their time on trying to prove something that is unprovable.
God's existence must be accepted on faith, based on our own experience and the teachings of Scripture. When we accept by faith God's existence, we gain a freedom from worrying about whether God exists or not.
I pray that you will continue to explore the existence of a God of grace and love.
Grace and Shalom,

God has given us free will, this includes the freedom to follow Him or to not. It is not the thought that is a sin, it is dwelling on that thought and entertaining the idea that is sinful. God knows that it is in our nature to question and if you truly want to know the answer, ask Him and He will tell you. What good would it do to imagine that God did not exsist?

We are free to think anything that we want to, but God holds us---and you---responsible for out thoughts. I can imagine you boiling in a lake full of fire and lava, although this would not be sin because on the present track you are on it will become the truth. God does not punish us for thinking the truth---his truth. You are free to think about repentance any time that you like and then you can express it and God will forgive you.

Christians are free to think.
But they must think within the limits of their faith.
After all, if they admitted that other religions might be correct, or even that god does not exist, they would no longer be Christians.

Of course. I think about these things all the time. That's what makes you have more faith, is if you think he might not exist, but then you look around at all the beautiful creation and your own body and decide that he MUST exist. You prove it to yourself over and over again.

Why would they want to think such thoughts. It is not possible for God not to exist so why think it.
Jesus Christ Is the Only Way To Heaven!
In The Holy Bible, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6. He meant “I am the only way to God the Father and to heaven”, “I am the only truth that you need to know.” and “I am the only spiritual life available to mankind.” In other words, “I am the only true and living God.”
All other so-called gods are false gods. They are not real. They do not exist. No other so-called god has the power to forgive, cleanse and remove all your sins from you to get you to heaven. They don't even claim to.
I pray you will believe this and accept the fact that you are a sinner needing to be saved from your sins (“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Romans 3:23, The Holy Bible.) and accept the fact that the blood Jesus Christ shed for you at Calvary is the only way you can have your sins forgiven, cleansed and removed and is the only way you can get to heaven. I pray you will acknowledge that you are a sinner and ask Jesus Christ to forgive, cleanse and remove all you sins and accept Him into your heart/life to live for Him the rest of your life. (“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” John 1:12, in the Holy Bible.) That is what it means to be born again. (“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3 in The Holy Bible.) Salvation is a free gift. You cannot work for it. You cannot be good enough to earn it. You must, by faith, receive it as a free gift. (“8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast.”) Ephesians 2:8-9.
God loves you and it is not His will that you perish in hell.
(“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” II Peter 3:9 in The Holy bible.)
This is my prayer for you

Yeah I'm free to think. Actually I try to look at things from atheists point of view all the time. That way I can share ideas with them on their terms, in a context that they are comfortable with.

God gave us our power of thought, we can use it for better or for worse. People make choices according to their thoughts, but don't always act on them in a negative way.

I believe that we all think about our convictions. People's belief in God is "faith" based. Faith id defined as evidence of thinks not seen. I have faith that my car will startbased on previous experiences. I have faith that God exists based on previous experiences as well.
