This question is womewhere else but i am wondering too and didn't see any good answers that I can understand, and no for your info i am not blonde

its the curve of the shape and the aerodynamic shape.
the curve pushes air at a constant rate to the back of the boomerang pushing it forward into another spin and moving the whoe thing forward in a circular pattern.

It's the shape of the boomerang, the shape on the top part and the bottom part and the curve of it that causes it to turn and come back if it doesn't hit it's target.
The boomerang was invented to kill prey but if it missed it would keep going, imagine how many got lost before they made it to come back. Very ingenious I think.
