The thing that makes me smile about my grandmother is that she is SO NOT LIKE A GRANDMOTHER. I love her dearly, but she's like a 19-year old in a 60-something body. She's got tatoos, wears things that could've come from MY closet (And looks GOOD in them), listens to current music, and isn't scared of a fist fight. She's the one who used to buy me cigarettes and give them to me behind my dad's back when I was younger. She's not your typical grandma, but I love her to death and wouldn't have it any other way.

She's been gone for several years but all I have to do is just think about her and I smile. She was literally the nicest person. She never said anything bad about anyone and was always willing to help anyone. One of the things I remember most was the way she took care of her hands. Every evening she would rub cuticle cream on her nails and every week she would polish her nails. She always wore bright red polish. She always had such beautiful hands. After she became bedridden I would do her manicures for her.

My grandmother has been dead for around 20 years, but I still remember her spoiling me as a kid and making a comforter for me. When I visited the farm, she even chewed out my grandfather when he made me work in the field chopping weeds when I was 10 years old and accidentally cut my leg. Boy did he get yelled at. :)
Thanks for recalling my grandmother's memory. I only had one since my other grandmother died three days after giving birth to my father :(.

my grandmother was the best. she lived on a farm in west virgina so i only got to visit her like twice a year. but it was awesome. every time we would come to her house we would get there real late at night because it is like a 9hr drive from my house. and she would always be sitting there at her kitchen table waiting for us(no matter how late it was) to give us a big giant warm hug and greet us.
i have many great memory's about my grandmother but i have a feeling that it would be way more then you would want to read about.

She was Scottish. And so everytime I hear that accent, I think of her. She would use words like "wee" and "aye", and the way she'd pronounce other words I remember too. Oddly the word "murder" stands out. I hear so few Scottish accents these days. Only in elderly people. The Scotts don't come here anymore I guess!

My grandmother raised me, and when I would come home from a date, she would come in my room and sit on the edge of my bed and ask how my evening went. While we talked she would start patting my back, and before you knew it I was asleep. I was 22 years old and my grandmother could still pat me to sleep. Wish my wife would do that.

It may sound weird but beef jerky. She introduced it to me when I was about 6yrs. old. I had saw it but just naturally thought, yuck! She had went in the store and came out with 2 stick and gave me one. She said try it you'll like it it's good. So I did and I did like it.. Ever since then, everytime I see or think about beef jerky I do think of my Mawmaw.

I loved my grandmother's Scottish accent. It was so pleasant to just hear her talk.
She also had smarties for our kids.
She called our youngest son Paddy even though his name is Nicholas. Go figure.

I met my maternal grandmom when I visited my mom & dad's original country and she was a GREAT COOK, and a great conversationalist, very wise!
My paternal grandmom, she's special in a different way. I never met her. I only spoke to her on the phone but she passed away before my folks got their residencies in the US and my dad was devasted that he couldn't travel to see her before she died. But she loved me without knowing me. Here's why. On the day that my grandmom passed, I was about 9 years old she came to see me spiritually the evening that she died. I knew it was her and just started to cry as I felt her hugging me as if to meet me and give me her blessings before she walked through heavens door. Hence why till this day no one can shake me from the fact that there is something that comes after we die. When you know someone has passed because they came to see you and then the phone rings and your parents are in shock when they thought you were going nuts. I love you abuelitas! :)

My grams was one of those petite, size four, porcelain faced ladies that don't seem to exist anymore. She loved a clean house and bed sheets were always fresh. I can't seem to find that kind of clean. I love to think about and smile when we use to go spend the night with her and sleep in the safe comfort of her and those sheets. I loved her so!!!
