Get a Stafford loan and grants. Schools like Harvard, Princeton, and Yale offer very good financial aid. If your family makes less than 60k, you can go to Harvard for free.

I was in the same boat. My mother barely had enough to feed us and I wanted to go. I got a scholarship that let me go loan-free.

Consider these options: loans, grants (if mom is poor [experience talking], the gov't will pay some to most of the bill), scholarships, work-study, part-time employment, on campus job. You are not without options, and you should talk to the Financial Aid department at the school you wish to attend for specifics.

Go Get Them,

You will need to fill out a FAFSA at fafsa.ed.gov. This uses you and your parent's income to determine how much your family can afford to pay for your education. Most likely you will be eligible for grants and the Subsidized Stafford Loan. The grants/loans will be in your name and you will not be penalized by your parent's credit. A grant and a Subsidized Stafford Loan will not be enough to cover all of your expenses. To get all of your school related expenses covered you will have to take out additional loans and ask for extra grants. I have listed below exactly what you NEED to do.

This is what you will NEED to do:
1) Fill out a FAFSA
2) Contact your financial aid office and get your parent to apply for the Parent Plus Loan
3) If they get turned down, you contact your financial aid office and tell them that you want an UNSUBSIDIZED Stafford LOAN
4) If you have unmet need ask for additional grants (FSEOG, your state's grant)

Yes, you need to go to school and brush up on your grammar! just playing...but you attending school has nothing to do with your mother. You can apply for federal loans whch depending on the school might cover all the tuition. You can also get a private loan at www.teri.org but you will need a consigner if you are not credit worthy or ready.
