They say chicken bones are bad. But for a good majority of the time it isn't going to hurt it. It's not like drinking antifreeze.

The dog just might be a little under the weather, moody, etc. But one thing to keep a eye on is it's bowl movements. Make sure it is going. Also that there isn't any blood in the stool.

Dog Ate Chicken Bones Symptoms

2016-11-16 03:30:06 · answer #2 · answered by blinebry 4 · 0 0

Dogs should never be allowed to eat chicken bones (or any other bones from our food). These bones can choke your pet, get lodged in the digestive tract, or break/splinter and cause many internal injuries. If you think he's not quite right, you need to get him to the vet. There are many problems these bones can cause...and even a slight change in behavior should be cause to get them to the vet. Some of these problems will have no symptoms until it's too late. Do him a favor and call your vet right away.

Everyone knows that chicken bones are dangerous for dogs to eat -- especially cooked chicken bones -- because they're dry & brittle and they splinter into lots of tiny (and sharp!) pieces inside your puppy's tummy after they've been chewed & swallowed. Since there isn't much that you can do after the chicken bones have been ingested by your dog, you simply need to monitor him closely for the next few days. Keep checking his stools to see if the bones pass. Watch for blood in the stool, or any signs that he's straining to defecate. You should also keep an eye on your dog's temperament. If he becomes moody or listless, take him to a vet immediately. Perhaps the best thing you can do is try to "cushion" the tiny bones inside your dog's tummy by overfeeding him a little more over the next couple of days. Cooked rice (that's completely cooled first) is ideal, because it is gentle on a dog's stomach and digestive tract. You could serve up a small helping of plain white rice alone, or mix some cooked rice in with your dog's normal dog food. Then, you just wait and see. Chances are, everything will come out fine in the end. what to watch for if your dog has blood in its stool: Bright red blood in the feces Possible straining to defecate Increased number of bowel movements produced Possibly no other clinical signs Possibly other systemic signs of illness, such as excessive drinking, urinating, vomiting and diarrhea, lethargy, poor appetite, weight loss

An old dog we had growing up got into the garbage and ate a few chicken bones, he had a hard time walking, he would pee right where he was laying or standing, he also had shaky legs, whined a lot.
We took him to the vet and they gave him something to help dissolve the bone splinters in his stomach and after a few days he was back to normal, a little bit slower, but for the most part normal.

He may just look a bit lethargic if his stomach hurts. It's not the going down so much as it is the coming out. The bones are not digested and will break into splinters. There can be small pieces in his feces and as they travel through his intestines actually cut the lining of the intestine. There isn't much you can do about it now but watch him. If he develops diarrhea that is to be expected. If he has it more than once or it has blood take him to the vet. Same thing if he vomits.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://tinyurl.im/77Zw3

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Dog Training is all about getting your canine to behave well, but some people do it for sports and other entertainment purposes. Some of the other reasons people train their dogs are:

It rewarding since you get a sense of accomplishment once a dog can do something new.
It is a good opportunity to bond with the dog - this is important for the dog and for the owner.
You can make money when you train dogs as a business or for sport.
Training the dog is fun and it challenges the owner and the dog.
Different trainers have different techniques for training their canine. However, some techniques are more effective than others. To learn about the best techniques, visit a registered dog trainer, talk to a veterinarian, or do online or offline research.
There are several types of training that you, or a professional, can explore to train dogs and these are:

1) Behavior and obedience training: One training that is universal is behavior and obedience training. This is done on dogs of all ages, but it is better to start when the canine is a puppy because as they say, it is hard to teach old dogs new tricks. Behavior and obedience dog trainingbrings out the best in the dog and it makes understanding each other easier.

2) House training: House training is very important and it should also start when the dog is still a puppy. House training is all about training the dog to have house manners and to respect your space. There are several techniques used for this and they include crate training and pad training for training the dog to 'go' outside.

3) Positive reinforcement: Positive reinforcement is a new type of training approach and it is all about rewarding the dog for good behavior or for learning a new trick. All animals tend to perform better when there is a promise of a reward. Possible rewards are snacks, interaction with other dogs, giving the dog your attention, or giving the dog tug toys - the reward should take into consideration what the dog likes because dogs are different.

4) Negative reinforcement: Negative reinforcement training approach has been used for many years where the dog is punished for failure to learn or to behave properly, but this does not work because it only makes the canine scared and causes it to lose confidence. Negative reinforcement techniques included beatings and electric shocks.

5) Trick training: Trick training is done for fun, by those who want a sports dog, and those involved in other entertainment activities such as the circus. You should choose the dog carefully to avoid frustration because some dogs are easier to train than others.

6) Teething: It is important to train dogs when they are teething because they are under a lot of pain and they usually chew on furniture such as table legs, shoes, and even wallpaper. Possible training techniques for discouraging the chewing are bad-smelling sprays on items that are at risk and giving the dog chew toys.

7) Command training: It is possible to train dogs to follow commands. These commands include 'sit', 'attack', and 'fetch', among others. This requires patience and there are various techniques of dog training that can be used to achieve this such as giving rewards.

What Rich Z said, I'm just writing here so you'll know atleast two people share that opinion. He could be bleeding internally, VET ASAP.

Were the bones raw or cooked? Make sure you tell your vet, either way.

They choke to death quickly or they start to bleed from the jagged bone shards in their digestive tract. If you think that your dog ate them take him to a vet ASAP.
