Absolutely.
"When you lie down with dogs, you wake up with fleas" is an old saying.
Limewire (don't try to kid me) is used for the illegal trading of music, video, and program files. 99.9999% of everything traded on it is copyright (or porn)
Limewire, kazaa, and it's equivelants are designed to steal things.
People who steal things MIGHT be stealing from you, too.
Viruses can load spyware programs such as keyloggers which will then wait for you to type in a credit card # for an online purchase.
There are 1000s of ways you can get "exposed"...
But (although it's not completely unheard of) when you buy that original store bought copy of 'oblivion' you are much less likely to get infected. (I acknowledge that sony put rootkits on many of it's cds)
Oh, and to the guy who said :
"you are responsible because the only viruses are .RAR archives
just dont download .RAR archives and you will be just fine"
This guy is retarded.
RAR is just a compression format. It is no more, or less likely to be virally infected than a .zip file.

its not limewire that gives you a virus, but the files you download from limewire. Its an open, unregulated file sharing community. Which means anybody can share any files they wish, including infected files. And if you happen to download one them, then you will end up with an infected file.

Yes the software you download could very well be infected. The limewire concept sort of runs away from the "download only from trusted sources" concept. PC security rule #4

It can and it will. We just spend a couple hundred dollars to get my in-law's computer fixed because the damn kids kept using Limewire. They're computer was infested with viruses and spyware. Limewire is a VERY EXPENSIVE supposedly free service.

Its not limewire, its the downloads themselves. I have yet to see a computer with limewire installed that was not totally infested with malware of many types.

well when it warns you that there might be a virus you can still go on with the download and your anti virus program should tell you then you are advised to delete the infected object but usually limewire is safe :)

Yes. You're downloading music off of God knows who. Sure, it tells you whether things are infected or not but there's no guarantee because nothing is 100% effective.
