I think God holds us responsible for what we know, and reject. I don't think He sends people to hell for not knowing what's right. My guess is that on the other side they're probably learning the real gospel from angels, or other spiritual teachers, and hopefully, they're embracing it.

Great question.
It goes for the throat.
Isa 9:16 For those who guide this people are leading them astray; And those who are guided by them are brought to confusion.
From a different translation--more to the point.
Isa 9:16 For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.

It appears that the people are destroyed.

One of the chief signs of a false prophet is that he is saying peace, peace.1 Th 5:3 While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like birth pangs upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

So I guess by reading the scripture, it is destruction.
This opens it up to, only the called shall be saved.
Predestination.....And there is nothing you can do about it.

The same thing that happens to all. A non existing state. It is difficult to imagine our self not to exist and think, but if you ever had an operation and you were fully anesthetized you would get the idea. It like a gap. You stop existing and thinking. Even when we sleep we have the ability to think and realise our existence.
Some people are too weak and scared of this idea, and thats why they came up with fairy tales.

This reminds me, for some reason, of a question I saw this week that went something like, "What happens to the souls of sperm that do not "win" the egg?" It was a Hindu who asked, I believe.
