you need to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. The 45 minute thing is not true, but don't over 60 minutes at a time.
Do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.
The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!
Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.
Good luck and stick at it.

Here is a list of things that should be avoided as much as possible:
-- High fructose corn syrup (soft drinks, candy, junk food)
-- Partially hydrogenated oils (baked goods, junk food)
-- Refined flour and sugar
-- Saturated fat
These foods are weight-loss-friendly:
-- Nuts (any kind, almonds are best)
-- Beans/Legumes
-- Green vegetables (raw spinach, romaine lettuce, broccoli)
-- Lowfat dairy products (NOT ice cream or frozen yogurt)
-- Eggs (high in monounsaturated "good" fat and protein)
-- Lean meats (especially fish and poultry)
-- Whole grain breads/cereals/pasta
-- Fresh fruit (best fruits end in the word "berry")
A few more tips: (1) Drink lots of water and unsweetened tea, preferably green tea or black pekoe tea, for the antioxidants. If you can't stand the taste, add Splenda instead of sugar. (2) Take a tablespoonful of olive oil three times a day. Olive oil is high in monounsaturated fat, which your body needs and is VERY good for you, and it's also a natural appetite suppressant. (3) Try to get at least 25 grams of fiber into your diet every day. Fiber fills you up and helps you get the "bad" fats out of your body. (4) For half a day, once a week, chuck the rules and eat whatever you want -- just don't stuff. That'll keep you from feeling deprived of the foods you love. (5) Do some type of exercise every day, even if it's just a 15-minute walk. Don't do cardio for more than 40 minutes a day -- you'll burn muscle instead of fat if you do.
Good luck!

The only thing that's proven to work is to eat less, and exercise more... in general. I would say that you should not only eat less, but eat more healthy. Avoid things like red meat and saturated fats. Eat plenty of fruits and vegatables. Especially vegetables. As for the type of exercise, make it mostly cardio... running or walking... jumping jacks, etc... One of the best all around exercises is swimming. This will give you that cardio work out, while also toning and even building muscle.
Just don't do any of those stupid low-carb diets. Any diet that tells you you can't eat fruit, but you can eat as much fat as you want, can't be healthy.

Firstly you need to know something. Losing weight is one of the most difficult things you can do. There are no easy solutions, no magic formulas and nobody else can do it but you. It is for this reason that I would only suggest you attempt to lose weight, if you really, really want to as if you don't i'm afraid you probably are wasting your time.
Secondly you have to ask yourself why you are fat. For most people it is a lack of exercise and for a few it is eating too much. Obviously most people have elements of both. So firstly ill speak about exercise and then I'll speak about food.
The first thing to know about exercise is that different forms of it have very different effects on your body. To lose weight you need to do cardiovascular exercise regularly. This means that you have to get your heart pumping at least 3 times a week for at least 20 minuites a time. Unfortunately to lose weight requires you to be able to do exercise for 20 minuites. This requires you to get fit, and you have to understand that you wont lose much weight until you are fit. So how do you get fit. Well you have to do something that really gets your heart beat up. Unfortunately, contrary to what many people think, walking will not lose you much weight, its just not vigerous enough. So many people say to me, why am I fat, I walk for miles every day to work. The problem is this kind of exercise is not at all effective at burning fat. Luckily there are many exercises that are good at burning fat, the only problem is they are not much fun. If you use a running machine, rowing machine, cycling machine, cross trainer three times a week for twenty minuites you will lose weight fast. Unfortunately these machines are pretty dull and most people use them enthusiastically for a month or so and then get bored of them. I suggest you find a sport that will give you the same exercise, while being pretty fun. Football, tennis, cross country running, swimming, and many more are all great evercise and also a great way to meet new people. There are many clubs around for all these sports and many more, and the good thing is you are far more likely to keep it up, hence you will lose more weight and keep it off.
As far as food goes: don't go OTT. Personally I think all forms of extreme diets are coutnerproductive. Just ask yourself, are you going to really eat cabbage leaves and pumpkin seeds long term. I know I wouldn't and I am not even sure that doing so would be particualrly healthy. I would even go as far as to say that as long as you do the exercise, don't worry too much about food, as people that do, tend to stop their diets pretty quickly. Obviously that doesn't mean that you can eat whatever you like, if you do just eat junk foods and ready meals, then you do really need to stop. But I find most people do eat sensibly enough, (you can be slim and eat nice food you know) and just don't exercise. If you are one of those people that decide that you are going to try and lose weight by not exercising, then I suggest lots of fish, pasta (with soy sauce on to make it edible) and fruit. But then again if thats your attitude I wouldn't bother.
Good luck.

Hi
This plan worked for me so here goes,
If you are serious about losing weight, the calories in the food you eat should be less than the energy you use. You will have to increase your metabolic rate now, and plan your diet carefully.
Formulate your own weight loss plan and you will lose weight faster. More details available at http://tinyurl.com/m7ckx
Good luck

First do one important exercise - push yourself away from the computer. You will NOT lose weight in front of the computer ... unless you, of course, stop eating and drinking. But that wouldn't be healthy, would it.
